2 killed, 1 injured in Southwest Side crash

A man and a woman in their 70s were killed and the person who allegedly caused the deadly traffic crash was injured Tuesday afternoon on the Southwest Side.

A 21-year-old sedan driver was westbound in the 2800 block of West 87th Street just before 3 p.m. when he crashed into an SUV trying to turn left on California Avenue, Chicago police said.

The SUV driver, a 73-year-old man, and a 76-year-old female passenger, were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where they were both pronounced dead, police said. Their names haven’t yet been released.

The sedan driver suffered an injury to his right leg and was taken to the same hospital in fair condition, officials said.

He was given a citation for failing to reduce his speed.

No further information was immediately available.
