Recent Pete Alonso Prediction Features $150 Million Projection to Stay with Mets

The New York Mets are thought to have one of the toughest decisions in free agency with star first baseman Pete Alonso hitting the open market. Now that it is November 6th, MLB’s free agency period has officially opened up.

After a disappointing end to the 2025 regular season, Alonso immediately opted out of his current deal to test the open market. As one of the best first basemen in baseball, it made sense as to why he did that, but the question now remains will Steve Cohen and the rest of the Mets’ front office re-sign Alonso? And open up the checkbook to meet his demands.

Mets Predicted to Re-sign Pete Alonso to six-year, $150 million deal

There’s no doubt that Pete Alonso’s contract will be one of the highest awarded to any player this offseason, it’s just a matter of how many years a team is willing to commit to him, and how much that team believes his AAV is worth. The Mets should be well aware of how valuable Alonso is, as he’s been with the organization seven seasons.

In those seven seasons, Alonso has smashed 264 home runs, and been named to the All-Star team five times.

In a recent ‘Educated Guesses” article by Bleacher Report, writer Zachard Rymer predicts which free agents may be quick to sign, and he has Alonso receiving a $150 million contract to remain with the New York Mets:

“This partnership has been going for seven years, and there’s no good reason for it to stop now. The Mets still need Alonso’s right-handed power at first base, and the team can add roughly $100 million in average salary and still not trigger the 2026 luxury tax.”

“Prediction: Re-signs with Mets on 6-year, $150 million contract”

The one dispute Pete Alonso may have with that contract projection is the years on the deal. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Alonso is seeking a seven-year deal, which may cause for some contract disputes. Alonso will be 31 the time Spring Training rolls around, but his production absolutely warrants a seven year deal.

Pete Alonso Has Been Everything & More for New York

Pete Alonso has been everything and more for Queens in his time with the Mets. He has several big moments, and several monster seasons. His level of production is extremely hard to replace.

In 2025, Alonso played in all 162 games, hit 38 home runs, drove in 126 runs, and posted an OPS+ of 144. He also plays a solid defensive first base, and led the National League in doubles.

As for the rest of MLB, they can try and outbid the Mets for Alonso, but it will be hard, as they are expected to be among the biggest spenders in free agency this winter.

Alonso also belongs to Boras Corporation, which agent Scott Boras is known for taking his players out of their current deals in search for a more lucrative contract. That $24 million player option for 2026 just isn’t close to what Alonso is actually worth, and now they are setting up for a mega-deal.
