Dolphins Part Ways With Tight End Ahead of Bills Game

The Dolphins continued to tinker with their depth chart ahead of their Week 10 game against the Bills, waiving tight end Tanner Conner on Thursday.

Conner, 27, appeared in 33 games with one start as a Dolphin since 2022, recording 12 catches for 107 yards.

His departure leaves Julian Hill and Greg Dulcich as the lone tight ends on the active roster, though Miami theoretically could elevate either Chris Myarick or Hayden Rucci from the practice squad. Hill remains limited in practice after missing two games with an ankle injury.

The team did not announce a corresponding move.

Conner is a Converted Wide Receiver

Conner initially joined the Dolphins in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho State, where he was a First Team All-Big Sky selection as a wide receiver. The uber-athletic Conner also earned all-conference honors in track and field. That gained him notoriety from the Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, who named Conner as one of the most athletic players in college football.

Conner made the Dolphins’ initial 53-man roster as a rookie, then spent the 2023 season on the practice squad. He was again active in 2024, recording his first three NFL catches for 16 yards. This season, the 6-foot-3, 237-pound Conner had nine catches for 91 yards in nine games.

If Conner clears waivers, the Dolphins could possibly add him back to the practice squad.

Dolphins No. 1 Tight End Remains on IR

The Dolphins are in a bit of a bind as their No. 1 tight end, Darren Waller, is on injured reserve with a pectoral injury. Waller, who had 10 catches for 117 yards and four touchdowns in his first four games back from retirement, isn’t eligible to be activated from IR until Week 13.

In the meantime, the Dolphins will continue to count on Dulcich and Hill as they look to keep the season from spinning further out of control.

Miami is 2-7 and has a negative-63 point differential, fourth worst in the AFC.
