We continue to look at nine Power Four programs who could have their head coaches poached during 2025âs unprecedented coaching carousel cycle. The next six.
Kansas. Lance Leopold has been rumored to be a hot candidate before, especially after last seasonâs strong finish. But the Jayhawks have struggled this season so you know if he gets a chance for a fresh start at a comparable place, heâs likely to take it. Especially if a program like Florida, where heâs reportedly on the short list, comes calling. Given his time and success at Buffalo, he knows the terrain.
Louisville. Jeff Brohm is another guy who will be tough to pry away from his alma mater. But most certainly places like Penn State could try. Brohm was a star quarterback at Louisville, and has been a successful head coach at Western Kentucky and Purdue before returning home in 2023. He probably figured he was done moving. That was before this coaching carousel thing got so insane.
Minnesota. All PJ Fleck has done in Minneapolis is win. Heâs only one double digits once, but annually wins six or more and has the Golden Gophers in a bowl game. Fleck has been rumored to be available before, and might be tempted by the UCLA job this time around.
Mississippi. Lane Kiffin has a good gig right where heâs atâ¦but his success with a previously pedestrian program makes him a very attractive candidate for places like Florida and LSU. He says heâs staying in Oxford, but given his history of movement â including time in the NFL â heâs another guy who is not immune to calling up the moving van. Kiffin has made Ole Miss an attractive gig for whomever might replace him. Most will consider it a lateral move anyway. Then there are rumors about the Miami Dolphins gig…
Vanderbilt. Clark Lea is a real American success story. A hometown boy, heâs made what was a doormat football program â at a place that doesnât even have an athletic department â into a Top 25 program. It will take real money to get him to leave, but whomever doesnât get Kiffin will very likely make Rea choice 1A. Insiders say he will listen to offers. Of course Vanderbilt will do all they can to keep him as well.
Washington. Unlike Dillingham and Brohm, Jedd Frisch rents, he doesnât buy. Frisch has been an assistant coach for nine different NFL teams, and assistant at Florida, Miami, Michigan and UCLA before he landed the head coaching job at Arizona in time for the 2021 season. He has spent three seasons in Tucson, turned that program around before taking the more high profile gig in Seattle. Heâs been successful at Washington, but heâs still got the moving van folks on speed dial. If a perceived bigger job makes an offer, heâd be likely to bolt. Florida might be interested as well, which would be hard to say no to.
