Buffalo Announces Incredible Honor for Bills Superstar Before Dolphins Game

The Buffalo Bills are having another great season, and a lot of that has to do with their starting left tackle Dion Dawkins.

Dawkins is performing exceptionally well in both pass and run blocking, contributing to the offense’s average of 29.4 points per game.

Well, Dawkins is hoping to win a Super Bowl in Buffalo; the city will reward him with a high honor.

Dawkins to Receive Key to the City of Buffalo

Buffalo’s acting Mayor Chris Scanlon announced on Friday that Dawkins will receive a Key to the City on Nov. 14.

Many mayors around the country will give keys to players from the cities they represent, which shows the respect they have for them.

Most of the time, the player will receive a key after winning a title, but with the Bills being so close to the Super Bowl, Dawkins deserves one.

Dawkins will be the first Bills player to receive a Key to the City since former wide receiver Terrell Owens received one in 2009, according to WIVB.com.

“Dion Dawkins represents everything that makes Buffalo special — hard work, heart, and a commitment to lifting others up,” Scanlon said in a statement, via  Mark Ludwiczak from WIVB News 4. “On and off the field, he’s been a role model to our young people and a champion for our community. This Key to the City is a symbol of our gratitude for all he’s done and continues to do to make Buffalo a better place for everyone.”

Dawkins Praises The City of Buffalo

The Bills drafted Dawkins in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Temple. Dawkins is now in his ninth season with the team and has been to four Pro Bowls.

The 31-year-old tackle praised the city of Buffalo in a statement on Friday.

“Buffalo has been the pinnacle of my life since I was drafted here, and now with being able to receive the Key to the City, it means everything but especially unity with this city,” Dawkins said in a statement. “It allows me to connect more hands of greatness, love, and passion to those who want to see the city continue to be a better place. I’m thankful to be honored. I’m thankful to be a part of everything that Buffalo has to offer and I’m thankful to now officially be called a Buffalonian. I will use this key not just as a trophy but to continue to drive this city to be as great as we know it all is.”

It’s always neat to see players get recognized for their play and hard work around the city. Buffalo has a great group of players who represent the city well, and Dawkins is one of the leaders in the group.

It took the city of Buffalo 16 years to present a key to a Bills player, but it likely won’t be long before the next one is handed out, especially with quarterback Josh Allen possibly going to get one.
