De La Salle overpowers Clayton Valley, completes 10-0 regular season

De La Salle’s depth was on full display Friday night.

Its dominance, too.

Six players scored touchdowns for the Spartans in the first half – four on the ground, two through the air – and that was plenty for the Concord powerhouse to complete its second consecutive 10-0 regular season with a 47-15 rout at home of Clayton Valley Charter.

A seventh Spartans player added one more TD in the second half.

Next stop for De La Salle will be the North Coast Section Open/Division I playoffs, which begin next week. Matchups will be announced Sunday.

As expected, it was all De La Salle in its regular-season finale.

Track star Jaden Jefferson opened the scoring less than a minute into the game with a 45-yard touchdown around the left side.

Greg Jones followed with a 21-yard touchdown reception from Brayden Knight to finish a nine-play, 48-yard series.

Then Knight ran in from 4 yards out.

After that, Judah Pape plunged into the end zone from 2 yards out to make it 27-0 early in the second quarter.

Jamal Johnson-Lucas’ 16-yard run widened the margin to 34-0, and Knight’s 17-yard completion to Dylan Scott completed the first-half scoring.

De La Salle had six possessions in the first half. It scored touchdowns on each of them to take a 40-0 lead into the locker room.

Not to be out done, the Spartans’ defense overpowered a Clayton Valley team coming off a 31-14 loss to Acalanes last week.

The entire second half was played with a running clock.

Clayton Valley (5-5) scored on its first series of the second half, completing an 80-yard drive against the DLS reserves when Nolan Lopez threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Landon Trautner. The two-point cut the margin to 40-8.

DLS answered with a scoring drive of its own, capped by quarterback Ray Pelosi’s 1-yard run that stretched the advantage to 47-8.

Jadyn Richards’ 56-yard reception, which included multiple broken tackles, accounted for another Clayton Valley touchdown that pulled the Ugly Eagles to win 47-15.
