Katy Perry has seemingly revealed the reasons for her split from Orlando Bloom after nearly a decade together.
The Lord of the Rings actor, 48, began dating pop star Katy, 40, in 2016. Although they briefly split the following year, they later reunited and went on to welcome daughter Daisy Dove in 2020.
However earlier this year rumours started swirling the pair – who had become engaged in 2019 – had quietly broken up.
After months of speculation, their representatives confirmed in July that they’d been ‘shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting.’
Although Katy has since moved on with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 53, she’s now released a new song that hints at the reason for the relationship breakdown with her ex.
Titled Bandaids, the single was released on Friday, with the lyrics detailing heartbreak and the loss of a relationship.
Some of the emotional lyrics include the lines: ‘Hand to God, I promise I tried / There’s no stone left unturned.
‘It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t / You were there, but you weren’t.
‘Got so used to you letting me down / No use tryna send flowers now. Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Band-Aids over a broken heart.’
In the second verse of the song, Katy also hints she tried to save the relationship.
‘Tried all the medications / Lowered my expectations,’ she sings.
‘Made every justification / Bleeding out, bleeding out, bleeding out slow.’
She goes on to sing about her partner not putting in any effort.
‘It’s not that complicated / To ask me how my day is. I’m flatlining trying to save this.’
By the end of the song, she explains having no regrets despite the relationship coming to an end.
‘If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again. The love that we made was worth it in the end.’
Although Katy doesn’t explicitly name Orlando in the song, the music video – which was styled on the horror movie franchise Final Destination – indicates she is referring to the British actor.
At the beginning of the video, she drops a ring into a drain while washing dishes and tries to retrieve it – but the garbage disposal turns on and severs her finger.
In September last year the singer had shared that she rewarded Orlando with oral sex when he did chores around the house, specifically noting how he’d do dishes.
‘So, it’s like, if I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean, and you’ve done it all, and you’ve done all the dishes, and you’ve closed all the pantry doors, you better be ready to get your d**k sucked,’ she candidly shared during an interview on Call Me Daddy.
‘I mean, literally. That is my love language. I don’t need a red Ferrari! I can buy a red Ferrari. Just do the f***ing dishes! I will suck your d**k! It’s that easy.’
In one scene, she also notices a daisy – a clear reference to the former couple’s five-year-old daughter.
The song has been warmly received by her fans, who have said it is a ‘return to the pop rock sound that makes her so special’.
‘It sounds like 2010. This sounds like my childhood. I’m sobbing. She’s so back. What a great song!’ Sofia commented on YouTube.

‘This song really hits hard. sometimes neglect doesn’t come in loud fights but in silence and indifference. Band-Aids can’t fix what someone chose to ignore. Thank you katy for showing your vulnerability. it’s a human experience and I know a lot of people feel the same way,’ Tom added.
While Katy and Orlando have never commented publicly on their split, the full statement from their representatives read: ‘Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting.’
It continued: ‘They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is—and always will be—raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.’
Speaking about Katy’s new romance with Justin, an insider previously told Metro that Perry and Trudeau are ‘having a lot of fun together.’
‘He absolutely loves her sense of humour and thinks she’s incredibly talented,’ they shared.
‘They come from very different backgrounds, but Katy is quite in tune with current affairs and politics. She finds Justin incredibly charming and intelligent.’
‘After splitting from Orlando, she’s not in a rush to jump into a new relationship, but they’re really enjoying the time they’re spending together. Even when she was on tour, they were in contact the whole time.’
