Vikings Give Brutal Injury Update, Send Key Depth Piece To IR

The Minnesota Vikings announced a list of transactions on Saturday ahead of their Wek 10 heavyweight fight against the Baltimore Ravens.

Vikings CB Jeff Okudah has been placed on the injured reserve list because of his complications with concussions so far this season. Star Tribune beat writer Emily Leiker reported that the most recent concussion was his second of the year. ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reported that as of yesterday (Friday) Okudah was indeed not symptom-free.

The former Detroit Lions‘ first-round selection has made his rounds around the National Football League in recent years. The Vikings are his fourth team, and of course, the Lions were his first. Okudah spent 2019 to 2022 in the Motor City. He also spent 2023 with the Atlanta Falcons, and 2024 with the Houston Texans.

Okudah has been struggling on the field a bit. Our own Trevor Squire announced that Okudah should perhaps be sat down for another veteran corner:

With Okudah out with a concussion in Week 9, Moreau stepped in as the third cornerback behind Byron Murphy Jr. and Isaiah Rodgers. He played 24 of a possible 64 snaps and did not allow a catch on the lone target thrown his way, posting a 73.4 overall grade. Moreau currently ranks 38th among all cornerbacks.

While it’s just one game, Moreau has a stronger track record across his 115 games and 56 starts compared to Okudah.

Moreau also has proven himself before in Brian Flores’ system, stepping in to play 30-plus snaps in three games in place of Stephon Gilmore last season.”

CB Fabian Moreau Elevated to 53-Man Roster

GettyMinnesota Vikings CB Fabian Moreau has been elevated to the Vikings’ 53-man active roster ahead of Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens after it was announced that Jeff Okudah has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Mr. Squire hit the nail on the head, just with different circumstances. Instead of a “benching” of Okudah, it would be his health that sits him down in favor of veteran Fabian Moreau. Per Sean Borman, this will be Moreau’s third time promoted to the active roster from the practice squad this season. His other activations took place in Weeks 2 and 9.

This will be Moreau’s second week of action in a row. Last week against the Lions, Pro Football Focus rewarded his performance with some solid grading:

  • 73.4 overall defensive grade
  • 70.9 run defense grade
  • 76.7 tackling grade
  • 70.8 pass coverage grade

Moreau played 24 total snaps in Week 9 at Ford Field. 21 were credited as pass coverage snaps, and 3 as run defending snaps. In those snaps, he totaled 2 total tackles. He was also targeted once in coverage which resulted in an incompletion.

The Vikings also announced another transaction. With Aaron Jones expected to play tomorrow while injured, they called up a RB to the active roster. RB Corey Kiner will dress for the Vikings, joining Jones, Jordan Mason, and Zavier Scott in a deep runningback corps. It will be Kiner’s first activation to the main roster of 2025.
