Brian Daboll Gives Evasive Answer About Giants Job Security

Another defeat on the road, another loss after leading by double-digit points, but Brian Daboll still won’t be cornered by questions about his future as head coach of the New York Giants.

Speaking after Big Blue fell 24-20 to the Chicago Bears in Week 10, Daboll told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, “I’m just focused on these guys in the locker room,” after being asked if he’s concerned about his own status.

Daboll has reason to be concerned after his team give up 14 points inside the final four minutes to let the Bears off the hook at Soldier Field on Sunday, November 9. Not only did the Giants lose their grip on what looked like a victory, they also lost star rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart to a suspected concussion.

Dart rushed for a pair of touchdowns, but he had to go from the tent to the locker room in the fourth quarter. Daboll, who called the defeat “another tough one,” confirmed the first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft was sent to “check for a concussion,” per Raanan.

His thoughts will be on the first-year signal-caller whose promotion was supposed to save Daboll’s job, but the latter can’t evade the noise about his future forever. Not when Daboll’s job security is becoming a weekly theme during a third-straight miserable season.

Debate About Daboll’s Furture Far from Over for Giants

Daboll’s future was a hot topic even prior to the game in Chicago. The debate might have been settled after Week 7’s defeat to the Denver Broncos, another game when the Giants squandered a sizeable fourth quarter lead.

Team president John Mara was ready to let Daboll go then, but he was talked out of the decision. The reprieve may not last long though, not after the Giants again collapsed late, this time when Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ran for the winning score from 17 yards.

It was inevitable Daboll would be subjected to more questions about his job security. He’s been defiant and elusive in the face of those questions so far, but Daboll is fast looking condemned to the same fate as the man he replaced.

Brian Daboll Tipped to Repeat History for Giants

Daboll got the job back in 2022 because Joe Judge had failed to rebuild the Giants into a contender. Judge was let go after finishing 4-13 a year earlier, and Dan Duggan of The Athletic can see parallels with Daboll’s current situation.

As Duggan put it, “Being in Chicago brings back memories of the end of Joe Judge’s tenure. He was fired compiling a .303 winning percentage in two seasons. Daboll has a .185 winning percentage over the past two seasons. It’s incredible how far things have fallen.”

The scale of the fall referenced by Duggan would be impressive if it weren’t for the dire consequences for the Giants. He began with a 10-8-1 record, including a playoff win, but Daboll has since recycled through dismal quarterback play, underperforming defenses and erratic personnel decisions, leading to 6-11 and 3-14 finishes, before more struggles this season.

Benching Russell Wilson for Dart was supposed to be the catalyst Daboll needed. Yet while the young QB1 is impressing at times, the Giants are finding more and more ways to lose games.

It’s a pattern ownership surely won’t tolerate for much longer.
