Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis Gets Fantastic Injury Update

The Dallas Mavericks have been without Anthony Davis since October 29, when he left a game against the Indiana Pacers. He came into that game on the injury report with an Achilles injury. Davis left that game after just seven minutes of playing time.

Since that game, Davis has missed five straight games, as Jason Kidd wants to make sure that he is fully healthy before he puts him back on the floor. Given Davis’ injury history, the Mavericks are being extra cautious with him in the beginning portion of the season.

Ahead of a matchup with the Bucks, Davis has gotten a positive injury update regarding his Achilles. After being listed as doubtful for the last couple of matchups, he has been upgraded to questionable, meaning he could be back on the floor.

Dallas Mavericks Forward Anthony Davis Upgraded to Questionable

Without Davis in the lineup, the Mavericks have cratered. They have the second-worst record in the Western Conference and are in danger of falling into too big a hole to get out of. The Mavericks score the fewest points per game in the league.

Adding Davis back into the lineup would give them their best player back on the floor. It will still be a few months before Kyrie Irving is able to return, so they need Davis to carry the load. Kidd has inserted D’Angelo Russell into the lineup to give the team a natural point guard to help set players up for open shots.

Davis is one of the few players who can help create his own shot from anywhere. Without him, they have floundered. The Mavericks are the 18th-best team in the NBA in points in the paint, and a lot of that is due to what Davis is able to give them.

Without Davis, the Mavericks have no shot of competing. Cooper Flagg has struggled offensively as a rookie. So far, he is shooting just 40.3 percent from the field. Part of that has been defenses collapsing on him without Davis on the floor to give them another threat to worry about.

The Dallas Mavericks Are in Danger of Losing the Season

With Davis having missed the last five games, and the Mavs going 1-4 in those games, they are in danger of losing the season. The Western Conference is the much tougher conference to compete in, so things need to turn around in a hurry if they want to make the playoffs.

In contrast, the Lakers are thriving with Luka Doncic. LA sits fourth in the standings with Doncic leading the way. Mavericks fans were already unhappy with the trade, but this start has made things even harder for them to swallow. LA looks like one of the best teams in the league.

If Davis doesn’t return against the Bucks, this injury update at least signals that he is close to getting back on the floor. That will give fans hope that the Mavericks can still turn things around before it’s too late. The key is to keep him healthy when he comes back.
