Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders posted an emotional video on social media on Monday as chatter continues about the team’s quarterback situation.
The video shared by Sanders featured a car giveaway in collaboration with Drive Point Auto Group, gifting a vehicle to someone in need. Sanders personally called the winner, and the conversation was captured on video.
“Your kids nominated you to get this free car we’re giving out. We are excited and hear you are a hard-working woman and want to help you out,” Sanders said on the phone. “Just wanted to call you and let you know it’s real.”
The woman said she’s been walking to work and catching Ubers to get by. She also said that she’s rooting for Sanders to get his time to shine with the Browns.
“I love the Eagles but I want to see Shedeur soar. That’s been my motto since Day 1,” she said.
Sanders replied, “Well, God works in mysterious ways, that’s for sure. I’m just passing along the message. I’m just the messenger, that’s it.”
Shedeur Sanders Remains Backup With Browns
Sanders continues to make an impact in the local community but he’s still waiting for his shot to do it on the field. The fifth-round pick and former Colorado standout has been backing up fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel for the past four weeks. That will continue on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
Gabriel has struggled in his five starts, but Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear after Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the New York Jets that he’ll remain the team’s starting quarterback.
Stefanski reiterated his stance during Monday’s press conference when asked if there’s a potential timeline for Sanders seeing the field.
“I don’t think it’s fair to speculate,” Stefanski said. “We’re committed to getting better as an offense. Dillon is certainly committed to improving every which way he can. And all the while, all of our players, our young players are developing and working so hard behind the scenes to make sure that they’re getting better on a daily basis.”
Browns Admit Dillon Gabriel Can Play Better
Gabriel has thrown for 869 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions this season. While Cleveland’s offense showed some improvement Sunday against the Jets, it remained far too inconsistent, and Gabriel couldn’t deliver the momentum-shifting plays the Browns needed to secure a win.
Stefanski admitted that Gabriel can be better, but continued to focus on improvement across the unit as a whole.
“Can Dillon play better? Yes, he can,” Stefanski said. “Can we play better around him? Yes we can. Can we coach him better? Yes we can. So I understand the question, but I just trust that our young players at every position and certainly at the quarterback position are guys that are going to work their tails off to get better every single day.”
Gabriel will get another chance to prove himself on Sunday when the Browns welcome the Ravens to Huntington Bank Field. The Ravens are a 7.5-point road favorite for the matchup, per ESPN BET.
