Yankees Get Good News on Big $460 Million Free Agent

The New York Yankees have some work cut out for them this winter. Despite a glaring need for upgrades in their starting rotation and in their bullpen, they are looking for upgrades elsewhere. So far this offseason, they have been faced with the question of whether to re-up on Cody Bellinger or give Kyle Tucker an offer he can’t refuse.

Now, a new report suggests that both could occur. Despite unfavorable betting odds, the Yankees have emerged as a serious contender to land Tucker.

New York Yankees Could Win Over Kyle Tucker

Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet published a new report on Thursday. The report provides an update on the current state of affairs with the Toronto Blue Jays. Yankees’ fans should raise their eyebrows at one of the tidbits hidden in the report.

“Simply put, it’s too early in the off-season to rule anything out,” Nicholson-Smith wrote on November 13, 2025. “It’s all on the table now, from Kyle Tucker (some plugged-in people say the Yankees seem far more likely than the Blue Jays to blow him out of the water) to a high-end reliever (they’ve liked Ryan Helsley in the past) to a trade (a logical way to complement the expected free-agent additions).”

Jon Heyman of the New York Post doesn’t see the Yankees as a frontrunner for Tucker’s services. Instead, he lists off four other organizations that are more likely to land the outfielder.

“He’s an all-around type without weakness and one of five players to post at least 4.0 WAR four straight years (Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, Juan Soto, José Ramírez),” Heyman wrote on November 10, 2025. “Two late injuries seemed to sour things in Chicago, even if he still had a 143 OPS-plus, so the Giants, Blue Jays, Dodgers, and Phillies seem more likely.”

Tucker Will Cost a Pretty Penny

If the Yankees are going to walk away from this winter with Tucker, it won’t be because they received a discount. Most projections are predicting a contract worth well over $300 million.

Heyman has predicted that Tucker will agree to an 11-year, $375 million contract before the start of Spring Training.

Tim Britton of The Athletic wrote a projections list for every free agent in this class. For Tucker, he has lined him up to cash a $460 million, 12-year cheque. This is much higher than his $350 million, 10-year projection from the Spring.

Regardless of what actually happens, it’s clear that Tucker will earn at least $350 million on his next contract.

Yankees Have the Odds Stacked Against Them

According to BetOnline, the Blue Jays are the frontrunners to land Tucker.

The betting site has the Blue Jays favored at +300 to sign Tucker. The Los Angeles Dodgers are second with +350, followed by the San Francisco Giants at +400. The Yankees are ranked fourth at +500.

Despite these odds, they aren’t the first people to have the Yankees as one of the top two landing spots for Tucker. In a joint post on The Athletic, Patrick Mooney, Will Sammon, Katie Woo, and Ken Rosenthal agree that the only team with a better chance of signing Tucker than the Yankees is the Dodgers.

The 28-year-old swung for 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 133 hits in 500 at-bats in 2025.
