Denver Summit FC found its defensive pillar.
Denver announced the signing of center-back Kaleigh Kurtz on Thursday. Kurtz, who has played in the National Women’s Soccer League with the North Carolina Courage since 2018, has won two league championships and will bring talent and durability to the club’s back line.
“Joining Denver Summit FC for its first season is an incredible opportunity,” Kurtz said in a statement. “This club’s vision, energy, and commitment to excellence really stood out to me. I’m excited to help build a winning culture, compete at the highest level, and contribute every day on and off the field.”
Kurtz, who has also won two NWSL Shields and two NWSL Challenge Cups, holds league records for consecutive minutes played and consecutive games played. Denver signed the 31-year-old to a three-year contract through the 2028 season.
“Having a player of Kaleigh’s caliber join our roster is a game-changer,” Summit FC general manager Curt Johnson said in a statement. “Her ironwoman streak, leadership, and championship pedigree bring a level of professionalism and experience that will anchor our defense and inspire our entire squad.”
Kurtz is the fourth player that Summit FC has publicly announced acquiring, joining forward Ally Watt (via trade with the Orlando Pride), midfielder Lourdes Bosch (acquired via a transfer fee from Melbourne City FC), and forward Nahikari García (the club’s first international signing).
More transactions are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Johnson said last week that the club has agreed to terms with 10 players so far, six of whom have not yet been announced.
