Former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley, a key member of the Wolves’ 2021–22 playoff run, was arrested in Texas on Friday on a third-degree felony assault charge, according to TMZ Sports.
The outlet reported that Beverley allegedly assaulted an unidentified family or household member, with accusations involving impeding breath or circulation, a serious felony offense under Texas law.
Beverley posted a $40,000 bond and is expected to be released the same day, according to the report.
Beverley’s Timberwolves Tenure: Energy, Leadership, and Playoff Return
Beverley remains widely remembered in Minnesota for his pivotal role during the 2021–22 season, when he helped the Timberwolves reach the NBA Playoffs for just the second time since 2004. His defensive intensity, locker-room leadership and fiery on-court presence made him a fan favorite during his lone season in Minneapolis.
Beverley averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds with the Timberwolves, and was instrumental in the Wolves’ Play-In Tournament win over the Los Angeles Clippers — a night Minnesota fans still recall as the “Pat Bev Game” for his emotional celebration and immediate cultural impact.
He was traded that offseason in the Rudy Gobert blockbuster deal that reshaped the Wolves’ roster.
Arrest Adds to Beverley’s Pattern of Off-Court and On-Court Controversies
The Texas arrest is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents involving the 36-year-old guard, who last played in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024.
Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, a playoff matchup in which he became embroiled in an ugly altercation with Indiana Pacers fans. During the incident, Beverley hit a female fan with a basketball, then took the ball from another fan and threw it forcefully back into the stands.
The NBA later issued a four-game suspension — which Beverley has still not served — and the Pacers fans involved filed a civil lawsuit, claiming physical and emotional harm, humiliation, medical expenses and lost wages.
After going unsigned in the 2024 offseason, Beverley joined Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel’s top league. That stint also ended poorly, as the team suspended him in February before eventually cutting ties.
Beverley Draws Criticism From Klay Thompson Before Arrest
The arrest comes days after another public controversy. Beverley and former NBA guard Jason Williams made comments on Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast, implying that Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson‘s relationship with rapper Megan Thee Stallion was affecting his play — remarks that included NSFW language.
Thompson condemned the comments as “disgusting and disturbing.”
Thompson wrote: “Referring to my girlfriend as a ‘p*y’ is disgusting… How would y’all feel if I referred to your wives in such a way? Do better, fellas.”**
Future Uncertain for Former Timberwolves Guard
With a felony case pending, a civil lawsuit unresolved, and a four-game NBA suspension still looming, Beverley’s future in the league or elsewhere is now in significant doubt.
The former Timberwolves, Lakers, Rockets, and Bucks guard has yet to issue a public comment on the arrest.
