He only cost Levante £2.6m when they bought him in September, but already Etta Eyong is attracting the attention of some of the world’s biggest clubs.

The 22-year-old had sparkled at reserve team level for Cadiz and then Villarreal, scoring regularly.

The Cameroonian was handed his first team debut by Villarreal in April this year, scoring once before the season ended.

He then started this season in the first team, scoring in August against Real Oviedo before somewhat surprisingly being sold to Levante on transfer deadline day for just €3m.

It is looking like an extremely shrewd piece of business from the side only just promoted to La Liga as he has made a blistering start to life with the club.

Five goals in his first nine Levante games has taken Eyong’s tally for the season to six in La Liga, with three assists.

Only superstars Kylian Mbappe, Julian Alvarez and Robert Lewandwoski have scored more than Eyong so far this season in Spain’s top flight.

Sensing a deal to be done, many of Europe’s top clubs have already started to take note of his progress.

The Athletic report that Barcelona and Real Madrid are keeping an eye on him, while talkSPORT report that Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all scouted the forward.

The same report states that West Ham have gone one step further and made an initial enquiry for the three-cap Cameroon international.

Levante chief speaks out on interest

Levante have even already turned down an offer for the player they only signed two months ago, as confirmed by the club’s CEO Jose Danvila.

‘What I can tell you is that Barcelona and Real Madrid haven’t contacted Levante about Etta Eyong,’ Danvila told Radio Marca. ‘And we haven’t had any calls from the Premier League either.

‘We received one firm offer for the player, but it has already been rejected. I’m reading many stories about Etta, and it’s true there is growing interest, but he’s not going to be sold this winter.’

The striker speaks of his dream move

Eyong has made no secret of the fact that he fancies a move to England at some point, saying it is a dream of his to play in the Premier League.

‘I can’t pick between LaLiga and the Premier League because I love both leagues,’ he told GiveMeSport. ‘I have already achieved my dream of playing in LaLiga and my other dream is to one day play in the Premier League.

‘I think I have the quality to thrive in the Premier League and that my style is well suited to English football. I am physically strong and can link up play.

‘I love watching Premier League matches. My favourite period is the Boxing Day games. You can see the players give everything – 200 per cent! What I love about the Premier League is that every game feels important. But for now my focus is just on Levante and I am ignoring all other news.’
