Former Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley, one of the franchise’s most iconic defensive sparks of the James Harden era, spoke publicly for the first time after being arrested in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge.

Shortly after posting a $40,000 bail, Beverley shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), urging fans not to believe early reports circulating online.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement read.

The statement claims Beverley arrived home to discover his underage sister alone with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night.

“He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister,” the statement continued.

“However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”

Beverley’s camp expects to challenge the charges aggressively once the case reaches the courtroom.

Beverley is best known to the Rockets fans for his successful four-season run from 2013 to 2017, where he became a cornerstone of the franchise’s defense alongside Trevor Ariza and Dwight Howard.
