NFL Announces Punishment for Player Who Hit Giants’ Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants and Chicago Bears played a competitive game on Sunday, November 9, but unfortunately, for the Giants, it ended in a 24-20 defeat. The game marked their fourth loss in a row, and what even worse is that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was injured during the game, so he’ll be out for the team’s outing against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, November 16, at home.

Now, one Chicago Bears player has learned his fate after a heated on field moment that resulted in a critical flag during the game.

Each week during the regular season, the NFL announces penalizes for players for actions taken during the previous week’s games. The NFL notes on their website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures.”

NFL Makes Decision on Player Who Sacked Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants

Let’s talk about the play. During the second quarter, Chicago Bears defensive tackle Andrew Billings grabbed onto Dart’s facemask, and the Bears were served with a harsh penalty for it that gave the Giants 15 extra yards and another first down. Now, the NFL has made its decision on whether Billings will also be fined for the incident. The NFL routinely sends out to players for roughing the passer. Those fines go up to $17,389 for a first roughing-the-passer violation and $23,186 for a second.

On the league’s Week 10 report, which dropped on November 15, Billings wasn’t listed, meaning he doesn’t have to pay up for his actions. But, if he had, it would have gone to a good cause.

According to the NFL, the funds raised from those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.” The NFL also states that “league staff members examine the plays identified as having potential infractions to determine whether there is cause for additional review.”

Even though Dart was forced to leave the game early due to a concussion, he still completed 19-of-29 passes for 242 yards, adding an additional 66 yards and two scores on the ground, according to research from the NFL. But, due to his injury, Dart will be unable to play in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, and Jameis Winston will get the start.

New York Giants and Green Bay Packers Preview

So, the Giants will try to redeem themselves against the Packers on Sunday. In a Thursday, November 13, feature from USA Today, Tyler Dragon paints a bleak picture for the Giants, stating, “Green Bay’s offense has been frozen the past two games, scoring 13 points or less. Look for Jordan Love and company to get back on track this week against a reeling Giants squad.”

However, Lorenzo Reyes a bit more optimistic for the New York Giants, stating, “Something is up with the Packers. They have consistently underwhelmed this season, despite having a decent record at 5-3-1. The Giants do have serious holes, but I think this could be a case where firing the head coach provides a short-term boost.”

Winston is ready to make his New York Giants debut, and this will be a huge one for him. He’s a veteran, and that experience may pay off.
