Bills Announce Good News for Returning WR Gabe Davis

The Buffalo Bills are reshaping their wide receiver room on the fly this week, adding one veteran receiver and elevating a returning vet from the practice squad.

The Bills signed Gabe Davis late in the offseason, but he remained on the injured list as he continued to rehab the knee injury that cut short his 2024 season. Davis has finally returned to full health and is ready to take the field again, earning an elevation from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Gabe Davis Ready to Go

Davis was a mainstay of Buffalo’s wide receiving corps since joining the team in 2020, making 183 total receptions for 2,969 yards with 29 touchdowns. He left after the end of his rookie contract, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year but going down midway through after suffering a season-ending injury.

Davis returned to the Bills late in the offseason as he continued to recover, finally returning to the practice squad earlier this month.

The 26-year-old receiver said this week that he feels back to full health and is ready to take the field when the Bills need him.

“I feel good. Whenever my number’s called, I’ll be ready,” Davis said this week, via WKBW in Buffalo. “Yeah, it feels good to be able to be back here and be able to start playing football again with the guys and get out there in front of the Bills fans. It’s going to be fun.”

The deep-threat wide receiver said he believes the Bills can get back on track this season despite some struggles on offense.

“Honestly, I just think we have to play to our standards. I feel like we all as a collective forgot about how hard it is to win,” Davis said this week, via The Associated Press. “It doesn’t matter who we play. It’s about us, and we got to go out there and play our game.”

Bills Making Other Moves

The Bills continued to shake up their wide receiving corps, signing Mecole Hardman to the practice squad this week and then signing him to the active roster on Saturday. The Bills made room on the roster by releasing return specialist Brandon Codrington, a strong indication that Hardman will move into that role in addition to his duties on offense.

Hardman said he would be ready for whatever the Bills need, noting this week that he’s had a history of special teams play.

“That’s kind of like one of my bread and butter throughout my career has been, you know, a good return man,” Hardman said. “I’m just here for wherever they need me at, you know, wherever they want me to step up at, and I’m just giving my best and go out there and do it if it’s returns or if they want.”

The Bills are looking to rebound from last week’s stunning loss to the Miami Dolphins, which left them three losses behind the New England Patriots on top of the AFC East after the Patriots dispatched the New York Jets on Thursday night.
