Dan McGrath, best known for his work on the animated shows The Simpsons and Mission Hill, has died at the age of 61.
The writer was just 61 when he died, with his family revealing the news on social media.
‘We lost my incredible brother Danny yesterday. He was a special man, one of a kind.
‘An incredible son, brother, uncle and friend. Our hearts are broken,’ said his sister Gail McGrath Garabadian on Facebook.
She later told The Hollywood Reporter that McGrath died Friday at NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn after suffering a stroke.
The comedy writer was best known for his work on The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, King of the Hill, Gravity Falls, and Mission Hill, kicking off his career on SNL in 1991.
McGrath was a frequent collaborator with Adam Sandler and Chris Farley while working on the show and was nominated for an Emmy for his work.
He later won an Emmy for his work on The Simpsons, and was nominated for a Writers Guild Award for ‘Life: A Loser’s Manual’.
He was reportedly fired twice from The Simpsons, and later went on to work on Mission Hill and had an almost decade-long stint at King of the Hill.
Fans and former co-workers have paid tribute to McGrath on social media.
‘R.I.P. today to Dan McGrath, great person and super-talented writer at The Simpsons, SNL, King of the Hill, and Mission Hill, where he was right-hand man to @Joshstrangehill and me — and responsible for the incredible Gus & Wally episode,’ said TV writer and film producer Bill Oakley on X.
‘Dan McGrath sadly has passed away at the age of 61. Famous writter for The Simpsons, King Of The Hill, Mission Hill & SNL. In Disney, he served as story editor in the first season of “Gravity Falls”, we thank him for his contributions of our favorite shows, may he rest in peace,’ read a post from a Disney fan account.
