The Chicago Bulls have long been rumored to hold interest in Anthony Davis. The 13-year NBA veteran is a Chicago native and would likely welcome the opportunity to play for his hometown team.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report has proposed a three-team trade to get Davis out of the Dallas Mavericks and into a Bulls uniform. The trade looks like this:
Bulls Get: Anthony Davis, Caleb Martin, Dante Exum, Jalen Wilson and an $8 million trade exception.
Mavericks Get: Tre Jones, Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, a 2026 Bulls’ first-round pick (protected), a 2026 Portland Trail Blazers first-round pick (protected), an $18.1 million trade exception, a $9.6 million trade exception and a $2.3 million trade exception.
Brooklyn Nets Get: Dalen Terry, Jevon Carter, the rights to Meelvin Ajinca, a 2029 and 2030 second-round pick via the Bulls.
Bleacher Report prefaced the trade idea with a note explaining that it would need to wait until December 15. That’s when Tre Jones becomes eligible to be traded.
“Landing an elite two-way big like Davis would help push the Bulls into a higher tier in the Eastern Conference, provided he’s healthy,” Bleacher Report’s staff reasoned. “The goal would be to add Davis without subtracting key rotation players like Josh Giddey, Matas Buzelis, Nikola Vucevic, Ayo Dosunmu and White. While Jones has been superb for Chicago, he’d be the necessary sacrifice, along with Collins and Huerter.”
Trading For Davis Would Signal A Change
In recent years, the Bulls have remained committed to rebuilding the roster around young talent. Josh Giddey has cemented himself as the guard of the future. Noa Essengue and Matas Buzelis are projected to be key members of the front court for years to come.
Adding Davis would skew the team’s overall timeline. However, there’s no doubt that Davis would elevate the Bulls to another level. Not only would his on-court production be valuable, but his presence and leadership in the locker room could prove to be essential.
Chiago would need to weigh up the risks. After all, Davis has struggled with injuries since winning a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. Nevertheless, he could be the marquee addition the Bulls need to expedite their rebuild.
John Wall Believes Davis Could Be Open To A Trade
During a recent episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” former NBA guard John Wall noted that Davis could be open to changing teams this season.
“I wish he was healthy so they could try to see what they have and wait till Kyrie comes back. But I think at this point, AD is probably done with it,” Wall said.
Davis has played in a total of 14 games since moving to the Mavericks in February. That lack of availability, coupled with his three-year $175.3 million deal, has to be a concern. Nevertheless, it’s not hard to envision Davis moving to his hometown to play out the final years of his career.
After all, the Mavericks look like a team on the cusp of a rebuilding phase, and parting with Davis will be the first step on that journey.
