After getting off to a rough start to the 2025 NFL season, losing three games in a row right out of the gate, the Houston Texans have found some momentum in the second half of the regular season, winning three out of their last four games.
The 2025 campaign was starting to look like a lost cause for the Texans, with clinching a playoff spot in the AFC looking less and less likely each week, especially after star quarterback CJ Stroud went down with a concussion. However, veteran backup Davis Mills has been able to shoulder the load, helping the team win three out of the four games he’s played this season.

Although the Texans will want Stroud back under center sooner rather than later, the team has been able to lean on Mills for the time being. The veteran backup drew high praise from star wide receiver Nico Collins after Houston secured the win over the division rival Tennessee Titans in Week 11.
Collins was asked if Mills’ calm demeanor is contagious, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.
“For sure,” Collins said. “1,000 percent! Every time Mills step in the huddle, it’s always calm. Next play, everybody, slow down and breathe. One play at a time. His calmness really calms everybody down. That’s how you execute.”
During the 16-13 win over the Titans, Mills threw for 274 yards and one touchdown with zero interceptions. It was the second straight game that the veteran quarterback passed for 274 yards or more, as he racked up a season-high 292 yards to go along with two touchdowns and an interception in last week’s win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Collins also had a solid game, finishing with 92 receiving yards and a touchdown on a game-high nine receptions. The star wideout has caught at least seven passes and racked up at least 75 receiving yards over the last three games.
As for Mills, the 27-year-old quarterback has passed for 726 yards, three touchdowns and only one interception over the course of the four games he’s played thus far this season. These aren’t monster numbers, of course, but they have been enough to secure three wins for the Texans, allowing the team to get back to .500 at 5-5 heading into Week 12.
Nico Collins Shows Support for Ailing Texans QB CJ Stroud

The primary concern for the Texans heading into Week 12’s matchup against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night at NRG Stadium is the health of Stroud, but he’s not expected to return on a short week.
Collins spoke about Stroud’s recovery and emphasized the importance of being cautious with concussions before returning to the field.
“Speedy recovery, my guy, 7,” Collins said of Stroud. “You don’t want nobody missing games, especially with your brain. You only get one so, you got to take care of that. We miss him, for sure, but the health is important.”
The Texans will have one of their toughest challenges of the season heading into Week 12, facing Josh Allen and company, who are coming off a big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
