This prompted discussion about the franchise, and Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp admitted to the others that he was ‘up for James Bond.’
‘I met Barbara Broccoli [James Bond producer]’, the pop legend, 64, went on.
His fellow campmates looked impressed. Model and actress Kelly Brook asked: ‘Who got it that time?’
Martin replied: ‘It was Pierce Brosnan.’
Kelly, 45, flattered Martin by telling him: ‘You’d have been a great Bond.’
In the Bush Telegraph, Kelly went on: ‘He would’ve been the sexiest James Bond of all James Bonds.
‘He’s got those beautiful blue eyes, he’s very tall, he’s got so much charisma.
‘I think they missed a trick there.’
Brosnan was announced as the new 007 agent in June 1994, and starred in GoldenEye as the fifth Bond in November 1995.
At the time Kemp was recovering from two brain tumours discovered by doctors, with one the size of ‘a grapefruit’.
He underwent surgery to get them removed and was left with epilepsy, which he controls with medication.
Before dropping the James ‘Bond-shell’, Martin revealed to campmates that he’d always wanted to be a surgeon: ‘Getting inside, fixing people, making people better.
‘The idea of that, I absolutely love.’
But Martin was destined for stardom. In last night’s Kev’s Deals on Wheels (previously known as the Dingo Dollar Challenge), the stars guessed correctly that Spandau Ballet had more UK top 40 singles than films Kelly Brook had been in.
While the ex-popstar thought his band had around 15-16, they actually had 17, according to Official Charts.
