Pupils in hospital after being ‘exposed to chemical substance’ at school

Three teenagers and two adults at a school in Staffordshire have been taken to hospital after a ‘chemical spill’.
Students were reportedly ‘exposed to a chemical substance’ at Biddulph High School in North Staffordshire.
Paramedics rushed to the scene on Conway Road at 10.15am today before treating six patients.
Five of them – three teenagers and two adults – have been taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘We were called to Biddulph High School. Two paramedic officers, an ambulance and specialist paramedics responded to the scene.

‘Crews arrived to find six patients requiring assessment after being exposed to a chemical substance.
‘A man, a woman and three teenagers were treated at the scene before being conveyed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further precautionary checks. The sixth patient was discharged at the scene.’

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: ‘We were called following reports of a chemical spill.
‘Three appliances attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
‘The chemical was isolated, and the building was ventilated. Five people were taken to hospital by paramedics for precautionary checks.’
