Police Docs Detail Violent Claims Against Ex-Timberwolves Guard

Former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley, a key piece of the team’s 2021–22 playoff run and one of the most polarizing personalities in franchise history, is now facing disturbing allegations after a Texas affidavit accused him of choking and punching his younger sister during a confrontation earlier this month.

Beverley, 37, was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with third-degree felony assault involving a family or household member by impeding breath — a charge that carries serious consequences under state law.

Affidavit Outlines Violent Encounter at Family Home

According to the probable-cause affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports, the incident occurred on Nov. 14 after Beverley’s sister allegedly left the home in the middle of the night without permission to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park.

After returning home, her mother instructed her to call her boyfriend back to the residence — and then contacted Beverley.

The affidavit alleges that upon arriving, Beverley confronted his sister, then grabbed her by the neck with both hands and lifted her off the ground, causing her feet to leave the floor. Beverley’s sister told officials she felt pain and feared she was losing the ability to breathe.

She claimed Beverley dragged her by the neck out of the bedroom, slammed her into the walls in an open room area, then placed her on the sofa and punched her once in the left eye. She also stated Beverley threatened her, saying he would be the “family relative to kill her.”

Responding officers reported visible marks on her neck and petechiae — small red spots indicating pressure — in the whites of her eyes.

Beverley was arrested at the scene and booked into Fort Bend County Jail.

Beverley Denies the Allegations, Urges Public Not To Assume the Worst

After posting $40,000 bail, Beverley issued a message on X  (formerly Twitter):

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾.”

His attorney later released a more detailed statement disputing the claims.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister — a minor,” the statement read. When he unexpectedly found her alone with an 18-year-old man in the home in the middle of the night, he reacted out of concern. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and look forward to addressing that in court.”

Beverley is expected to have his first court appearance in the coming weeks.

Familiar Name in Minnesota, Remembered for Fiery Leadership

Beverley’s name still resonates strongly with Timberwolves fans.

He played just one season in Minnesota (2021–22), but left a lasting imprint — serving as the emotional catalyst behind the Wolves’ return to the playoffs, famously celebrating the team’s Play-In Tournament victory on the scorer’s table.

During that season, he averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds, but his larger impact came through leadership, toughness, and energy — qualities Wolves players praised during their surprise postseason push.

Beverley’s Recent Controversies

This arrest follows a series of off-court issues for Beverley.

He has not played in an NBA game since May 2024 with the Milwaukee Bucks, when he threw a basketball into the stands during a playoff game — striking an Indiana Pacers fan — resulting in a four-game NBA suspension that remains unserved. The fan later filed a civil lawsuit.

Earlier this month, he was also criticized after making crude comments about Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson and rapper Megan Thee Stallion, prompting Thompson to publicly condemn the remarks as “disgusting and disturbing.”

Beverley faces a third-degree felony charge, and the Texas case remains active. No trial date has been set.

Beverley was a three-time NBA All-Defensive guard who also played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and the Philadelphia 76ers.
