Aaron Glenn Provides Positive Update on Jets’ Kris Boyd After Shooting

The New York Jets were given a scare over the weekend when it was reported that cornerback Kris Boyd was shot in New York City.

The shooting occurred around 2 AM early Sunday morning in front of the Sei Less restaurant at 156 W. 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan, according to ABC News.

Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in New York and listed in critical condition.

The cornerback was shot in the abdomen and had a bullet lodged in his lung.

Thankfully, Boyd was stabilised and is expected to make a full recovery.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed at his press conference on Wednesday that he had spoken to Boyd and that he is “in good spirits.”

Aaron Glenn Says Kris Boyd ‘Is in Good Spirits’

Glenn told the gathered media that he spoke to Boyd on Sunday morning following the shooting.

“Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn said via the New York Post’s Brian Costello.

“I’m thinking about is wife. I’m thinking about his kid. I want to make sure that he’s OK. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind. And anybody else that was involved, make sure those guys are OK.”

It was revealed by the New York Post on Monday that Boyd had been out with several New York Jets teammates.

Linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles were present.

Luckily, nobody else was harmed in the incident.

“That’s what eases my mind is that he’s in good spirits. His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he’ll walk away from this just fine.”

Boyd has yet to play a snap for the Jets this season, as he has suffered a shoulder injury in training camp that’s kept him on injured reserve.

Glenn said he has been a great veteran presence in New York’s locker room despite not seeing the field in 2025.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing. He comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Jets Players Show Support For Their Teammate

Multiple New York Jets players spoke highly of their teammate in the wake of the shooting.

Jets defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, who played with Boyd on the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, was thankful to hear he was doing better.

“I know some players who’ve communicated with him, I personally have not. I just know there’s been a lot of answered prayers,” Phillips said via the team website.

“It’s a blessing to know that he’s in stable condition, surrounded by his family with a lot of support around him, definitely for where the news originally was reported.”

Despite only playing one season together, it’s obvious from his words that Boyd left an impact on Phillips.

“I’ll say something about KB, though…just such an energetic, such a positive person…and even my time here with him, he’s still got that upbeat positivity, even while being on IR. And I can’t wait to see a smile on his face again.”

Hopefully, Boyd will be back on his feet and in the Jets facility again soon.
