The update that everyone was waiting for.
New York Jets defensive back Kris Boyd was involved in a shooting over the weekend, where he ended up with a bullet in his abdomen. ESPN’s Rich Cimini was the first to share that Boyd “was upgraded to stable condition”, a New York Police Department spokesman said Wednesday.
Boyd took to social media to share a massive update on his status.
“God is real, God is powerful,” Boyd posted on his Instagram story. “I’m sorry I have no words at the moment.. Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”
Head Coach Aaron Glenn Shares More Positive News on Boyd’s Recovery
“Once I heard about the situation, and I’m talking about Kris in general, the first thing I thought about was [that] he just had a kid. I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid, and I want to make sure that he is okay. That was the only thing that went through my mind — and anybody else that was involved, making sure those guys were okay,” head coach Aaron Glenn said on Wednesday, November 19.
“I’m happy for the fact that he is going to come out of this thing really really well,” Coach Glenn added.
Coach Glenn confirmed that he has been able to talk to Kris and that happened on Sunday, shortly after the shooting took place.
“That is what eases my mind is that he is in good spirits — his wife and his kid are in good spirits. He will walk away from this just fine,” Coach Glenn revealed. He couldn’t reveal when Boyd will be released from the hospital, but Coach Glenn said he is “upbeat.”
Coach Glenn Wouldn’t Go Into Boyd’s Long-Term Future
This past offseason, the Jets inked Boyd to a one-year $1.6 million contract. He was supposed to play a role as a key special teams contributor. That never came to fruition because Boyd suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in practice during training camp.
Boyd is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
Coach Glenn was asked if Boyd’s NFL career is in jeopardy after this tragic incident.
“You know what, that is something that I didn’t even talk to him about. That is something that I don’t think needs to be talked about at this time. At that time, [our conversation] was more or less about how are you doing? How is your family doing? There is a ton of time to talk about football after this incident happened,” Coach Glenn said.
Despite Boyd being out for the season, he was spending time at the team facilities.
“Oh yeah, he has been a part of what we’re doing. I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He has been fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has done a really good job of helping the other guys that we have. He has been a huge part of Stiggs’ [Qwan’tez Stiggers] development as far as a gunner. I am very appreciative of what he brought to the table,” Coach Glenn said.
