An equipment problem early Friday interrupted BART service for commuters on one of the transit system’s travel lines Friday, yet another day with a major interruption for the agency.
BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said vandalism to the equipment caused BART to stop its service between its Hayward and Berryessa stations. He said BART still was working to determine what caused the issue.
Both the Orange Line and Green Line serve riders traveling to San Jose. Orange Line trains were going as far as Hayward, while Green Line trains were stopping at Bayfair.
Filippi said buses were available to take passengers to the seven stations between Hayward and Berryessa.
The Transbay Tube remained open, and service across the San Francisco Bay still was operating.
BART has had ongoing service issues since May. Just last month, BART endured two straight Mondays in which issues interrupted the commute. A week before that, the agency had to shut down one of its lines and suspend service on the other.
Computer equipment issues also caused a chaotic day in September when the agency had a system-wide shutdown. BART also had to shut down all 50 of its stations for nearly five hours in May.
In addition, BART had to close its Red Line from Richmond to Millbrae on Aug. 21, the first day that it started it’s new Tap and Ride system.
An electrical outage on July 2, shut down BART’s Yellow Line in eastern and central Contra Costa County. And fires near the tracks between the Daly City and Balboa Park stations and near the San Leandro station stopped trains service on consecutive days in May.
