Cowboys Star Hit With NFL Punishment in Comeback Game

On Monday night in Las Vegas, the Cowboys had a major breakthrough. It’s not so much that they won the Week 11 game on the road to move to 4-5-1–not a big deal against a Raiders team that is now just 2-8 and sinking fast. No, the breakthrough for the Cowboys was the assembly of something close to a fully healthy defense, which the Cowboys have not had in place all season.

Not only did the Cowboys have star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams in place after he arrived in a trade from the Jets, but they had Malik Hooker back at safety as well as young corners Caelan Carson and Shavon Revel on hand. Importantly, they also had a rebuilt linebacker crew after trotting out one of the worst pairs in the league for most of the year.

That was Logan Wilson, in place after a trade with the Bengals, and returning linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who suffered a torn ACL, MCL and PCL in December of 2024.

Cowboys Got NFL Fines in Week 11

For Overshown, it was a triumphant return to the Cowboys lineup after a grueling rehab process. But it came with an asterisk: Overshown was hit with an unnecessary roughness fine from the league office for a play in the second quarter. He was found to have committed a late hit, though he was not whistled for a penalty on the play.

The fine was announced on Saturday afternoon by the league office.

Overshown was fined $8,166, which was a minor hit compared to that of teammate George Pickens, who got into hot water for unsportsmanlike conduct, “use of prop.” Pickens committed a lewd act with the goal post, and the league frowned heavily, hitting him with a $26,085 fine.

DeMarvion Overshown Says He Has More to Give

As for Overshown, he and Wilson have already shown they can be a major upgrade over the combo of Kenneth Murray and Shemar James, who were rated among the five worst linebackers out of 81 graded linebackers in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.

And Overshown said he had plenty of rust to kick off after 343 days away from the game. He added he could not watch the Week 11 tape because all he saw is areas to improve.

“I didn’t want to look at it,” Overshown said. “So that says a lot, but it’s simple stuff, it isn’t anything that can’t be fixed. It’s just being antsy, ready to play football. I think I was more so worried on showing my physical abilities than my critical thinking abilities and my processing of the game.

“It’s easy, fixable stuff, so I’m excited for this next game because I know that is, I won’t say it’s the worst I will ever play, but coming off 343 days, I can be way better than that.”
