The San Francisco 49ers had a dominant win in Week 11 over the Arizona Cardinals, but there are a couple of players from this contest who will be a little lighter in their wallets after the NFL announced its fines for the previous week.
On November 22, the league published its Gameday Accountability report, and for the 49ers, linebacker Curtis Robinson appeared on the report. Nonetheless, he wasn’t the only player from this contest to get a fine.
As part of the fine process, players are notified of any violations and may appeal. Cases are heard by appeals officers, former NFL players Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL and NFLPA. Moreover, their decisions are final and binding.
Regarding Robinson, the 49ers player’s infraction came in the third quarter at the 14:21 minute mark. It was unnecessary roughness that led to Robinson receiving a financial penalty for a hip-drop tackle. As a result, the NFL is fining him $6,500.
The Cardinals Also Had a Player Fined
San Francisco wasn’t the only team fined in this game on November 16; Cardinals tight end Trey McBride also received a fine. McBride’s fine came from an incident in the second quarter at the 10:20-minute mark for unsportsmanlike conduct and a violent gesture, as the league deemed it. As a result, the NFL is fining McBride $14,491.
Brock Purdy Earns Praise in Return Against Cardinals
The contest against the Cardinals also saw the return of Brock Purdy, who completed 19 of 26 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. It’s been a few days since the contest in Week 11, and 49ers general manager John Lynch reflected on seeing Purdy back on the field.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in Brock,” Lynch said during a November 21 appearance on Bay Area radio station KNBR (h/t 49ers Web Zone). “And he just handles himself so well. And from the very first time he set foot on our practice field, he’s done that. So, he kind of puts confidence into our team, and so, excited for him. I wouldn’t say nervous.”
Lynch offered further insight into why he believes Purdy has regained his form after only one game. Even though the game plan limited his mobility, Lynch observed the familiar confidence and rhythm that define Purdy’s play, making him look like his old self on the field.
“I know he felt healthy. I thought he looked healthy,” Lynch added. “It was a really good game. There’s always going to be kind of an acclimation period to get yourself back going when you’ve taken an extended layoff, albeit from injury or first game of his season.
“I think there was some of that, but for the most part, great game to go kind of get his legs underneath him, get his confidence back, and get his rhythm, really. And I felt like he was able to accomplish all of that.”
San Francisco are now focusing on Week 12, and they will be facing another team that’s in the middle of a division fight of their own, the Carolina Panthers, on November 24 at Levi’s Stadium.
