The Jacksonville Jaguars eked out an overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but not before several mistakes were made.
The Jaguars move to 7-4 on the season and sit at the No. 6 seed in the playoff picture. It’s by far the best start to a season under former No. 1 overall pick quarterback Trevor Lawrence, now in his fifth year.
But, Lawrence has statistically declined this season and the passing game can’t seem to stop turning the ball over. Lawrence has thrown an interception four games in a row and has failed to crack a 100+ QB rating this season. On Sunday, he threw three picks.

Trevor Lawrence and Liam Coen Confident in QB1
Head coach Liam Coen said there was a moment on the sidelines about dealing with the struggles and both men concluded that it’s ride or die with Lawrence letting him be a gunslinger.
“People can watch the tape and make their own judgements, and I’ll watch it and do the same,” Lawrence said postgame. “I got to be smart with the ball. Obviously, we had four turnovers and they were all on me. I own that and got to do my job and take care of the ball and not put our defense in tough spots. I totally get that. But I’m never gonna play scared, I’m going to continue to let it rip. And I think that’s why we have a chance at the end of the day because you keep playing. So never going to apologize for that.”
Coen was clear postgame that Lawrence has the green light.
“Dude, just keep chucking it,” Coen said he told Lawrence. “What are we gonna do?”
Just to be clear, no one wants Lawrence to play better than Lawrence.
“(Lawrence) was bummed, he was pissed about it,” Coen said. “He kept saying confidently, ‘I feel good. I’m throwing it good. I’m seeing it good.’”
Jaguars Well-Positioned and Play the NFL’s Worst Team Next
Despite throwing three interceptions and making several mistakes throughout the afternoon, Lawrence still completed 18 of 30 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns, leading his team to victory, 27-24.
The 26-year-old quarterback lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown in the first quarter and threw two interceptions in the third, including one picked off in the end zone by Garrett Williams. He was intercepted again in the fourth, this time by Budda Baker.
The Jaguars ultimately pulled ahead for good in overtime when Cam Little drilled a 52-yard field goal—well within his range after setting an NFL record with a 68-yarder earlier this year.
With the win, Jacksonville closed to within one game of the AFC South–leading Indianapolis Colts (8-3), earning its second straight victory after the Colts fell to the Kansas City Chiefs (6-5).
Next week, the Jaguars head to Tennessee to face the Titans (1-10).
