WWE fans think the Last Time Is Now tournament is ‘cursed’ after a match had to be cancelled in the middle of the action on Netflix.

During this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Penta was taking on Solo Sikoa in a quarter final match in the ongoing tournament to decide John Cena’s final opponent.

The current Intercontinental Champion will retire from wrestling on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and fans are waiting to find out who he will face.

Sheamus was recently pulled from the tournament due to injury, with his replacement being announced during Friday’s SmackDown.

On Monday, there was another twist as Penta appeared to legitimately hurt his shoulder during a move on the outside of the ring.

After an ad break, ring announcer Alicia Taylor told fans that the fan-favourite masked luchador was unable to continue due to injury, and the referee had decided to stop the match.

Sikoa was named the winner and progresses to the semi-finals for a showdown against GUNTHER, who secured his spot after beating Carmelo Hayes last night.

Fans have suggested the tournament, and Raw as a whole, could be hurt after a string of high profile injuries on the men’s side of the roster, including former World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

On the other side of the bracket, Jey Uso – who beat Rusev to earn his spot – will face the winner of LA Knight and a mystery opponent on this week’s SmackDown.

The tournament has been a newsworthy one, with surprise entrants like Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler making high profile returns to WWE.

Saturday Night’s Main Event itself will have a special twist too, as Cena recently confirmed there will be a focus on the future as he says goodbye after a glittering 23-year career.

As well as his retirement bout, the show will feature exhibition matches pitting the best of Raw and SmackDown against rising superstars from NXT.

Last week, Cena – who has gone from wrestling legend to Hollywood megastar in the likes of Peacemaker and Heads of State – explained that he wanted to shine a light on what WWE has to offer when he’s gone.

‘Hopefully the world’s watching on Saturday Night’s Main Event. I get to wrestle one final time, but in doing that, everyone also gets to look at what to look forward to. And I think that’s the most important thing,’ he said on Raw Talk.

‘Yes, it’s that’s my last match, but collectively we’re all just kind of closing a chapter of an era in sports entertainment. I want people to be able to look forward to what’s next.’

Netflix is the home of WWE in the UK. Saturday Night’s Main Event will stream for free on YouTube on December 13.
