When Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb dropped what should have been a touchdown pass in a Week 12 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, he went to the sideline and did what most NFL diva wide receivers do.
He blamed his quarterback.
Just 2 days later, with some reflection, Lamb was singing a different tune.
His 8 drops this season are the most of his career for the 3-time NFL All-Pro and the most in a single season for a Cowboys wide receiver since Dez Bryant dropped 9 passes in 2012.
“Just find ways to get better,” Lamb said on Tuesday, November 25, when asked about his 3 drops in a thrilling, 24-21 comeback win over the defending Super Bowl champions. “You want to be solution oriented. You’re not really dwelling much on the problem. Granted, we know the problem, I need to catch the f—king ball.”
Most years, Lamb dropping passes like this would have been a death sentence.
This year, the Cowboys have George Pickens.
Pickens Has Been Revelation for Cowboys
Against the Eagles, Pickens once again made Lamb an afterthought with 9 receptions for 146 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Cowboys acquired Pickens and a 2027 sixth round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2026 third round and 2027 seventh round pick on May 7. Through 11 games, he’s second in the NFL in receiving with 67 receptions for 1,054 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Lamb has 44 receptions for 632 yards and 2 touchdowns in 8 games and has missed 3 games with a high ankle sprain. It’s the second season in a row he’s missed multiple games due to injury and it’s likely he won’t lead the Cowboys in receiving for the first time since his rookie year in 2020.
Cowboys Need Lamb to Step Up
Lamb taking accountability for his drops is a great sign, but won’t be the thing that probably causes people to forget his drops or his sideline temper tantrum against the Eagles. Catching passes and scoring touchdowns will, though.
The Cowboys, who are 5-5-1, now face a short week before they face the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day in what could the most watched regular season game in NFL history.
“The fact that CeeDee Lamb had the audacity to complain about where Dak threw this pass after he DROPPED IT is shameful,” NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho wrote on his official X account.
“CeeDee Lamb‘s role and opportunity has been elite, best in the NFL,” Establish the Run’s Adam Levitan wrote on his official X account. “He’s simply underperformed in it.”
“CeeDee Lamb dropping a TD (3rd bad drop today) then pointing to the back corner, looking at Dak to tell him he where he should have thrown it like Dak wasn’t heavily pressured (& then Lamb throws a tantrum on the sideline),” Ryan Knows Ball wrote on his official X account. “INSANE sequence from Lamb.”
“Yikes: Cowboys star WR CeeDee Lamb has 7 DROPS in two games against the Eagles this season,” NFL influencer Dov Kleiman wrote on his official X account. “Week 1 vs. Philadelphia: 4 DROPS. Week 12 vs. Philadelphia: 3 DROPS. When it matters most CeeDee doesn’t show up.”
