Reggie Miller’s Shocking Steph Curry Prediction Will Upset Warriors Fans

Charlotte Hornets wing Kon Knueppel has drained 63 threes in just 17 games, shooting at a clip never seen before by an NBA rookie. Hall of Famer Reggie Miller, who once held the all-time three-pointers record, feels Warriors star Steph Curry, the current titleholder, should be “nervous” about his record.

“Dare I say this… is Stephen Curry going to be a little nervous in about 15 years?” Miller asked on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday.

“Just go back and look at Steph’s first two or three years, in terms of three-pointers made, and what Kon has done this year. Just look at their first years.

“Here’s the problem — he’s got to stay healthy and have longevity. Can Kon Knueppel do that over a long period of time? I wanna see it, and Kon is doing it in Charlotte.”

Kon Knueppel’s Chances

Further to Miller’s point, the NBA was a different league when Curry entered. During his first season in 2009-10, the league-wide average for threes was just 18.0 per game, with rookie Curry attempting 4.8 for the Warriors.

In Knueppel’s rookie season, teams are attempting 37.3 threes per game, more than double what the Warriors attempted in Curry’s rookie campaign. The 20-year-old Duke alum has the green light to attempt 8.5 threes, nearly double that of rookie Curry.

If Knueppel enjoys a fruitful 16- or 17-year career, Miller could be onto something.

As of November 26, Curry had made 4,131 threes from 1,041 regular-season games, leading the second-placed James Harden by 891 threes.

For Knueppel to even sniff Curry’s record, he’d have to average at least 300 threes per season for 14 consecutive campaigns.

Curry, of course, looks primed to add at least another 1,000 made threes to his tally, provided he plays for another three seasons at his current level.

The 3PM Record Baton

In Feb. 2011, Ray Allen broke Reggie Miller’s record (2,650 threes), nearly six years after the Indiana Pacers G.O.A.T. called it a day.

In Sept. 2022, Curry broke Allen’s mark (2,973 threes) at Madison Square Garden, and has since made another 1,153 threes, separating himself from the pack. Fittingly, both Allen and Miller were in the building, with the latter on commentary.

Curry said the record made him embrace his tag as the greatest shooter ever.

“I never wanted to call myself the greatest shooter until I got this record,” the Warriors said in 2022. “So, I’m comfortable saying that now. No better scenario to have Ray in the building, have Reggie on the call, to have my family here.”
