‘Yellowstone’ Fans Point Out 1 Major Character Is Missing From the New Spinoff ‘Y: Marshals’ Trailer

Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton on Yellowstone

“Yellowstone” fans have a new reason to speculate. Taylor Sheridan’s growing universe of spinoffs is expanding again, and fans finally got their first look at the upcoming CBS drama “Y: Marshals.” The series stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton and premieres March 1 on CBS, and the newly released trailer has everyone talking. But there is one glaring detail viewers immediately noticed — one major character is nowhere to be found.

“Y: Marshals” follows Kayce after he leaves the Dutton Ranch behind and joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. According to the official synopsis, the former cowboy and Navy SEAL teams up with the agency to bring justice to Montana while balancing his complicated family life and trauma from his past.

Along with Grimes, returning “Yellowstone” cast members Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, and Brecken Merrill will appear, alongside new additions Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Logan Marshall-Green, and Brett Cullen.

But one familiar face is missing — and fans noticed fast.

Fans Point Out Monica Dutton’s Absence From the ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff’s Trailer

The Nov. 24 trailer shows Kayce reflecting on everything he’s lost and the life he left behind in “Yellowstone.” He says, “I fought every day to get out of the weight of the Yellowstone. I lost my teammates, my parents, even my brothers.”

But one person wasn’t listed — his wife, Monica.

Kelsey Asbille, who played Monica on “Yellowstone,” has not been included in any promotional material for the new series, and her character wasn’t even mentioned in the teaser. Fans immediately questioned the missing piece.

Comments poured in across social media:

  • “They don’t mention his wife Monica. That’s odd.”
  • “Where is Monica? We don’t see her in the trailer????”
  • “I’m curious where Monica is. Did things not work out with the actress and they don’t want to replace her?”

One viewer summed up the general mood: “So is Monica dead or something?”

Asbille has other projects listed on IMDb, but nothing connected to the new series. CBS has not commented on whether Monica will appear at all in “Y: Marshals,” and the network has not confirmed if the actress remains part of the “Yellowstone” universe.

What We Know About ‘Y: Marshals’ So Far

“Y: Marshals” picks up after the events of “Yellowstone” and sends Kayce into a new chapter — literally and emotionally. The official show logline reveals:

“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Kayce and his teammates – Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means) – must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence with their duty to their families, which for Kayce includes his son Tate (Brecken Merrill) and his confidantes Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) from the Broken Rock reservation.”

Fans will have to wait until the series premieres to find out the fate of Monica and whether she appears at all.
