Hollywood is in mourning after beloved actress Lise Bourdin passed away at the age of 99. Bourdin, who was also a celebrated model, is perhaps most known for her role alongside Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn in Billy Wilder’s “Love in the Afternoon.”Â

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the French-born actress passed away on November 28 at her home in Labastide-dâArmagnac, France.
Lise Bourdin Leaves Behind an Impressive Legacy
Bourdin began her modeling career in the 1940s after meeting the brother of the owner of “Claudine,” which was a magazine at the time. Her career took off, and she even became known as the most photographed model in France.
She appeared on the covers of magazines such as “Marie-Claire,” “Noir et Blanc,” and “Harperâs Bazaar.” Bourdin was also featured in “Life” in 1946. After a while, she also caught the proverbial acting bug. Per IMDb, her first on-screen appearance was in 1949’s “Scandale aux Champs-Ãlysées.” She was uncredited in the role.
Her next role was 1951’s “Les mémoires de la vache Yolande.” However, what many would call her big break for acting didn’t come until 1957 when she appeared in “Love in the Afternoon.” She played Madame X in the film. Some of her other notable roles include “The River of Three Junks,” “Dishonorable Discharge,” and “…und abends in die Scala.”
Bourdin decided to retire from acting after 1959. This came after appearing in two films that year, “Quai des illusions” and “The Last Blitzkrieg.” She once said of her retirement, “The press didnât like me, and I had a private life outside the artistic world. I told myself that I would never have the career I deserved, so I stopped.”
Regarding her personal life, Bourdin was married to Roberto Seabra, a Brazilian industrialist. She then had a 30-year relationship with Raymond Marcellin, a former French Interior Minister. He passed away in 2004.
Fans Are Paying Tribute To Her Legacy
Bourdin didn’t have a long career as an actress. However, people who admire classic cinema are paying tribute to her legacy.
One person said on X, “Farewell to the long-forgotten Lise Bourdin, French model and actress, whom we may perhaps remember alongside Gary Cooper in ARIANE, by Billy Wilder. Also in LA CHICA DEL RÃO; LOS HIJOS DEL AMOR; LOS ASESINATOS TAMBIÃN TIEMBLAN; ESPÃAS DE UNIFORME⦠Rest in peace.”
