The San Francisco 49ers have won their third straight game after a convincing 26-8 Week 13 win over the Cleveland Browns on November 30 at Huntington Bank Field.
After a three-interception performance in Week 12 against the Carolina Panthers, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy took care of the football against the Browns, with no interceptions. Purdy completed 16 of 29 passes for 168 passing yards and one touchdown, leaning on George Kittle and Jauan Jennings in the passing game.
The 49ers standout also had help from Christian McCaffrey, who had a rushing touchdown on 20 rushing attempts for 53 rushing yards. Additionally, McCaffrey also recorded four receptions and 21 receiving yards.
Purdy spoke with CBS Sports and credited the entire team for securing the road win as they look to keep themselves in the race for the NFC West division.
“Just a complete team effort across the board—defense, special teams, [and] offense—everyone doing their job and trying to play smart football given the conditions we were in,” Purdy said postgame to CBS Sports’ Melanie Collins. “On a road environment like this, you have to be on top of your stuff. So credit to our coaches for getting us right and executing.”
49ers’ Brock Purdy Appears to Put Injury Behind Him
The game against the Browns is the third contest for Purdy since returning from his turf toe injury, and he shared how he’s feeling despite the cold conditions in which the Niners star was playing.
“It feels great,” Purdy added. “When I’m out here, I’m not thinking about it. I’m focused on my assignments and locking in to throw guys open and everything. It’s good. But more than anything, I’ve got the guys on this team who have my back, and I just want to go to war for them and with them. So glad we did that today.”
49ers Look to Finish the Season on an Impressive Note
San Francisco are heading into their bye week with four more games left on their schedule, and three of those will be against teams fighting for playoff position: The Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, and Indianapolis Colts.
Nonetheless, the Niners can extend their winning streak after the bye week, as they will be the favorite against the struggling Tennessee Titans on December 14. Moreover, this bye week comes at an ideal time, as it gives Purdy rest after returning from his injury and provides a good reset to see what needs further polishing as he gets into the groove of being on the field.
“End of the season right now, this is all that matters—playing it with a one-game-at-a-time mentality,” Purdy said. “So we’re just going to get healthy, heal up, get all the other guys back, and be ready to roll for the end of the season.”
If the 49ers can win out, then they have an opportunity to clinch the division to guarantee themselves a home playoff game. Furthermore, the Niners did receive good news in Week 13 as the Los Angeles Rams fell to the Panthers, so the division race is far from over.
