John Slattery has worked with a plethora of huge stars in his near-40 years as an actor, so you could forgive him for forgetting brief encounters with some of them. However, he has revealed he remembers fleetingly crossing paths with one of his “Nuremberg” co-stars 17 years ago.
The co-star in question is Colin Hanks â Tom Hanks’ son and the star of television shows like “Roswell” and “Fargo,” and movies like 2002’s “Orange County” and two “Jumanji” instalments.
63-year-old Slattery had a starring role as Roger Sterling in period drama “Mad Men.” He appeared in 85 episodes (and directed several) and all seven seasons of the show from 2007 until 2015. Hanks, 48, appeared in just three episodes in 2008’s season 2, playing Father John Gill.
Slattery spoke to People about his memory of Hanks being on the show.
John Slattery ‘Met and Chatted’ With Colin Hanks on ‘Mad Men’ Set
GettyJohn Slattery is starring with Colin Hanks in the psychological thriller historical drama movie “Nuremberg,” alongside the likes of Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, Richard E. Grant, and Michael Shannon.
Although the actor didnât interact on-screen with Hanks when the latter appeared in “Mad Men,” he told People that their paths did cross on set.Â
Slattery said, “We did [meet] briefly back then. I didn’t have anything to do with him story-wise on the show, but we had met and chatted.”
He also spoke of his experiences with Hanks while filming “Nuremberg,” calling him a “great guy” and explaining that they spent “a lot” of time together on the movie’s set.
“Nuremberg” follows United States Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, played by Malek, during World War II. It’s getting great reviews and it sounds as though Slattery enjoyed the production process.
Slattery Enjoyed Working With ‘Great People’ on ‘Nuremberg’
GettySpeaking of what drew him to star in “Nuremberg,” John Slattery said the initial attraction was its impressive cast. However, after reading James Vanderbilt’s script and the nonfiction book written by Burton C. Andrus, who Slattery plays in the movie, that sealed the deal for him.
Slattery added, “It’s a great story to be involved with and had great people to work with. [James Vanderbilt] had the money to produce it with some size and some scale, which doesn’t happen a lot. They don’t make movies like this anymore at this price point.”
The actor said his experience working with the movie’s cast was made all the more pleasurable by how nice they all were. He said, “It was a great group of people. We all got along well. Michael Shannon is a very funny guy. I’ve known Rami [Malek] for a while. We had a good time. It was grave during the day and it was heavy, but it was easy to let off steam after.”
He elaborated that the cast “all lived in the same hotel” during production and hung out with each other after each day of filming, adding, “I think we felt like the material was good and it was worth everybody’s time. So we had a really good time.”
“Nuremberg” released on November 7 and is still in theaters worldwide now.
