A scenic mountain pass west of Denver is now closed for the season, Clear Creek County officials announced Monday.
Guanella Pass, a popular fall destination for leaf peepers, is a 24-mile scenic byway that climbs above the treeline near Georgetown, about 45 miles west of Denver. Multiple peaks are visible along the route, including Mount Bierstadt and Mount Blue Sky.
The highest part of the mountain pass typically closes for winter after Thanksgiving and reopens close to Memorial Day weekend, according to Clear Creek County.
County officials said the closure covers roughly 10 miles of Guanella Pass, between Naylor Lake Road and the Burning Bear Campground.
