Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid Describes Frustration Surrounding Injury

The Philadelphia 76ers have not had Joel Embiid more most of this season. Embidd has been dealing with a knee injury and finally played his first game since the beginning of November. Playing a low amount of games has become the norm for Embiid.

Over the last two full seasons, Embiid played just 58 games. So far this year, he has only played seven. Embiid is clearly frustrated with the state of his body, and he has been working hard to return to the court pain-free.

After a game against the Hawks, Embiid was asked about his injury process and what the last few weeks have been right. Embiid was clearly unhappy with how his knee has been responding to treatment.

Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid Talks Knee Injury

When asked about what the process has looked like for the last couple of games, Embiid stated that it all has depended on how his knee feels before a game.

“Obviously, I had a few court sessions. Sometimes it responds well. Sometimes, it doesn’t. If you fee like you’ve got a chance to play, you play. It’s not too bad. If it doesn’t respond the way you want to, you make that decision.”

Embiid was then asked about staying positive, and Embiid described how well he’s been doing with that.

“It was okay. I mean, obviously, like I said, it was going to happen. Just kind of put your head down and worry about it or you can walk back in there and try to get back out there…What can you do? All you can do is keep doing the right things, keep focusing on the right things, and just go from there.”

It was pretty clear that Embiid is frustrated that he can’t be out there with his team. Embiid has done everything possible to stay healthy this season, but his body doesn’t seem to cooperate with him.

The Sixers Have Fallen Without Joel Embiid

After a hot start to the season, the 76ers have fallen to ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. Paul George has also returned from injury, so the team is trying to reintegrate Embiid and George at the same time. V.J. Edgecombe has been dealing with a shoulder injury and has missed some games.

So far, the 76ers are a bottom-ten team in defensive rating. Not having Embiid’s shot-blocking at the rim has hurt their ability to keep teams from finishing up close. Keeping him healthy is going to be key for them to get back in the top six of the standings.
