Sources close to Amy Schumer continues to deny that she and husband Chris Fischer are on the brink of divorce, but the comedian is only likely to fuel the ongoing split rumors with her latest effort to celebrate her dramatic weight loss and glamorous new image.
Schumer is not wearing a wedding ring in photos she posted to Instagram Saturday. But the focus probably isn’t supposed to be on the fourth finger of her left hand. Instead, the 44-year-old “Trainwreck” star wants her 14 million followers to see her posing on a staircase, wearing a Valentino lace mini-dress that shows off her svelte figure, cleavage and slender legs. In a couple of photos, Schumer’s 6-year-old son Gene appears, prompting her to joke, “Trying to go to the party but someone won’t go to bed.”
But this photos give no indication that Fischer even exists in Schumer’s life. Meanwhile, the photos are, like Schumer’s look, pretty stylized. Indeed, she gives credit for her look to her photographer, and to her fashion and hair stylists, as well as to the skincare brand that may have helped create the almost-unnaturally shiny, polished appearance of her face and legs.
As for Schumer’s weight loss, she has publicly credited Mounjaro, the GLP-1 agonist drug that’s also prescribed for type 2 diabetes, for helping her shed pounds from her 5-foot-7-inch frame, according to People. She told the Hollywood Reporter that she underwent liposuction in 2022, then used Wegovy, another GLP-1 drug, to lose 30 pounds, though she had a “horrible experience” with nausea and other side effects from that medication. She has since said she had a better experience with Mounjaro and began showing off her physical transformation earlier this month on Instagram, while also deleting pre-weight loss photos from the app.
Schumer’s physical transformation prompted sources close to her to tell the Daily Mail earlier this month that she is getting ready to end her seven-year marriage.
“She got skinny. She is over it,” a friend told the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, Fischer, a professional chef, “is mostly out of the house,” and the reportedly estranged couple listed for sale their two homes in Brooklyn and New Orleans.
Schumer and Fischer, 45, tied the knot in 2018 and share their 6-year-old son. Divorce rumors heated up after Schumer wiped clean her entire Instagram account, before uploading a photo of herself in a little red dress, revealing her new svelte frame. In that photo, Schumer also was not wearing a wedding ring.
In a follow-up post, Schumer insisted that she didn’t delete her old photos because they showed her prior to her weight loss. “That’s a narrative you created,” she said, addressing the media. “I’m proud of how I’ve looked always.”
Schumer said her focus was never on losing weight but on being healthy and “pain free” from back issues, endometriosis and other health conditions. “I am grateful to be strong and healthy especially for my son,” she said.
A second source told the Daily Mail that Schumer’s physical transformation has changed her “from the inside out and for the better,” while she and her husband have grown distant.
“Amy doesn’t talk about Chris that much anymore, it’s like they are no longer close,” this second source said. “He is never around, and she has not taken him on a red carpet for months.”
But in response to those claims, a source told People a different story earlier this month. That person denied that Schumer and Fischer are on the brink of divorce but remain committed to “working through the normal issues” that affect couples in long-term marriages.
