December is kicking off with several more inches of snow predicted for the Chicago area just days after a record-breaking storm over the weekend marked the snowiest November day ever.
Between two and four inches of snow are likely when it’s all said and done, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Doom.
The incoming weather system is also apparently causing some delays and cancellations at Chicago two airports. As of about 2 p.m., there have been 218 cancellations at O’Hare and one at Midway. Delays at O’Hare and Midway were about 20 minutes.
Snow showers are drifting in from the Midwest and snow should start to fall west of Chicago by early afternoon and in the city proper closer to mid-afternoon, said Doom.
“It’s mostly light to moderate snowfall, nothing like the other day,” Doom said.
At 2 p.m. a winter weather advisory will go into effect until the pre-dawn hours, Doom added.
As of Monday morning, there is not much wind brewing meaning no arctic wind chills though it is cold, only about 20 degrees. It will “warm up” to the upper 20s or possibly 30 for the rest of Monday and into Tuesday, according to Doom.
Saturday was the snowiest November day ever recorded in Chicago, according to the National Weather Service. The storm dumped almost 9 inches of snow on parts of the city over two days. O’Hare Airport reported 8.4 inches on Saturday and 0.3 inches on Sunday. Midway had 7.2 inches as of noon Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
