Fans are feeling all sorts of emotional after the first trailer for People We Meet on Vacation dropped.
The Netflix movie is set for a January release, with some declaring it as the saviour of the rom-com genre, as well as the 2026 cinematic scene.
It’s an adaptation of Emily Henry’s best-selling novel – known as You and Me on Vacation in the UK – and stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth in the lead roles of chalk-and-cheese Poppy and Alex, who have been unlikely best friends for a decade.
While they live in different cities, they spend each summer on holiday together – but the careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?
‘Already the highlight of my 2026!!’ enthused @shellyshares un the comment section on YouTube, while Haylee Thompson wrote: ‘I literally have tears in my eyes.’

It’s a sentiment several others agreed with, as @yamink.9672 commented: ‘I’m having tears just watching this trailer, I love you Emily Henry!’
‘I’m already crying,’ added Megan, while @whatcanidooo said: ‘Why am I SOBBING tho [sic]. I could not have possibly asked for a better Poppy, she is SO PERFECT.’
‘You guys the lack of real classic rom-coms is over like we’re so back we’ve never been this back WE SURVIVED THE GREAT WAR!!!’ celebrated Jude on X after the trailer dropped, while Katie urged everyone to ‘say thank you to Emily Henry for saving the rom-com genre’.
‘I AM SO EXCITED for the return of the rom-coms!!!’ commented Tanya Roberts enthusiastically, while @animestoe chimed in: ‘Thank you for saving the rom-com genre – we needed this movie to feel alive.’
‘Emily Bader and Tom Blyth are about to single-handedly bring back real rom-coms and I am sat,’ celebrated Jazzy on X.
‘I haven’t been this excited for a rom-com in a long time, I mean other recent rom-coms like Purple Hearts and My Oxford Year were cute but this just hits different,’ insisted Nadia Sayed Khaiyum, who added that it ‘feels so real’.
And in perhaps the highest praise an adaptation can receive, another fan shared: ‘This is exactly how I imagined it reading the book.’
