Broncos Part Ways With Dynamic ‘Standout’ Amid Major Announcement

The Denver Broncos officially signed Elijah Moore to their practice squad on Tuesday, and they commemorated their latest addition. However, Moore’s arrival signaled the end of another dynamic playmaker’s tenure with the Bronocs, rookie Kyrese Rowan.

Rookie Kyrese Rowan was on the unfortunate side of the transaction for the Broncos.

His time away may be short-lived, though, since Rowan has turned heads since he arrived in the springtime.

Broncos Cut ‘Preseason Standout’ Kyrese Rowan

“Source says Broncos release WR Kyrese Rowan from practice squad to make room for Elijah Moore,” The Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson reported on X on December 2.

Rowan had not received a call-up from the Broncos this season, despite the offense seeking a spark that they now hope Moore can provide. He was hardly involved in the Broncos’ offense during the preseason, too, until the finale.

Rowan caught all four of the targets thrown his way for 33 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Broncos officially announced Rowan’s departure to make room for Moore later on, drawing plenty of attention. Denver Broncos on SI’s Chad Jensen called Rowan a “preseason standout.

“It’s an unfortunate development for Rowan,” Jensen wrote on December 2. “Going undrafted out of Utah State earlier this year, Rowan competed hard in training camp and the preseason. Entering the preseason games in the fourth quarter made it hard for him to make an impact, but in the finale, he played much earlier in the game.”

Rowan bided his time until he was able to resurface.

Kyrese Rowan ‘Stayed Ready’ Waiting for Team to Call

Rowan expressed gratitude after getting the call to return to the Broncos in October, which required last-minute travel arrangements.

“I couldn’t be more grateful. Denver Broncos is a great program, and I’m so happy to be here,” Rowan told Tomasson at the time. “I was pretty surprised [by the wait], but I didn’t let that affect me. I just stayed ready and just kept working. And just hopefully – was hopeful for this call and finally came, so.”

The Broncos’ decision to cut Rowan at the end of the preseason was also attention-worthy. That just underscores the strong impression the youngster made during his time with the organization since the spring.

The Broncos’ practice squad is deep at receiver.

“After releasing Rowan, Denver now has three receivers on the practice squad: Moore, Michael Bandy and A.T. Perry,” The Broncos Wire’s Jon Heath wrote on December 2.

Health Key to Broncos’ Roster Decisions

Rowan was always viewed as a long shot to make the Broncos’ roster, which boasts 2019 Pro Bowler Courtland Sutton and fellow veteran Lil’Jordan Humphrey, along with recent draft picks Marvin Mims, Pat Bryant, and Troy Franklin Jr.

Rowan could find his way back to the Broncos once they gain clarity on other positions.

The Broncos got cornerback Pat Surtain II and linebacker Alex Singleton back from injuries in Week 13 against the Washington Commanders.

They remain without starting left guard Ben Powers, who is nearing the optimistic target timeline for his potential return from a torn biceps. The same is true of running back J.K. Dobbins, whom head coach Sean Payton confirmed could return from his Lisfranc injury.
