Daytime warming centers are open across Denver on Wednesday and overnight cold weather shelters will remain open as long as frosty temperatures continue, city officials said this week.
Denver’s recreation centers and public libraries are open for people to take a break from the cold during regular hours on Wednesday. Locations and hours are available online.
City officials activated the cold weather shelter plan on Friday and will continue providing extra shelter as long as cold weather continues, according to the Department of Housing Stability.
People needing shelter should start at one of the city’s “front door” access points, including:
- For individual men – Denver Rescue Mission Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St.
- For individual women – Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St.
- For young people ages 12-24 –Urban Peak, 1630 S. Acoma St.
- For families – Inn at the Highland, 2601 Zuni St. For more information, call the Connection Center at 303-295-3366.
Several shelters are also available 24/7, including the Aspen shelter, 4040 Quebec St., and at 2601 W. 7th Ave. and 375 S. Zuni St.
