Mohamed Salah stunned the football world on Saturday by blasting his treatment at Liverpool and suggesting he is close to leaving the club.

The Reds legend has been left out of the starting line-up for the last three games and wasn’t even brought on during the 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday evening.

After the wild game at Elland Road, the Egyptian vented his fury at how he has been treated of late, feeling he has been made a scapegoat for the Premier League champions’ disappointing season so far.

‘I couldn’t believe it. I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. I think it’s the third time on the bench, I think it’s the first time in my career,’ Salah said.

‘I’m very, very disappointed, to be fair. I have done so much for this club. Everybody can see that during the years and especially last season.

‘Sitting on the bench, I don’t know why, it seems the club are throwing me under the bus, that’s how it feels. It’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame.’

He added: ‘I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.

‘I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.’

Liverpool host Brighton on Saturday December 13 and Salah hinted that it could be his final game for the club.

‘I don’t know if I am going to play or not, but I am going to enjoy it,’ he said. ‘In my head, I’m going to enjoy that game because I don’t know what is going to happen now.

‘I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to Africa Cup of Nations. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.’

Where would Salah go in January?

It would be one of the more dramatic January moves if Salah does leave in the next transfer window, especially given that the 33-year-old only signed a new contract at Liverpool in April.

The obvious destination would be the Saudi Pro League, with a lot of interest in the forward from the wealthy division and obviously the funds to make a deal happen.

If it is not Saudi, or a Liverpool stay, it could be a move to Turkey, with Galatasaray touted as a possibility for Salah.

Salah takes aim at the media

The iconic forward feels he has been victimised by the media during Liverpool’s recent sticky patch, suggesting other players have had better treatment.

‘I have been at this club, scoring more than anyone in this generation, since I came to the Premier League, I don’t think anyone has scored more goals and made more assists than me,’ he said. ‘In the whole Premier League.

‘If I am somewhere else, everybody would go to the media and defend the players. I am the only one in this situation.

‘I remember a while go, Harry Kane was not scoring for 10 games, everyone in the media was like “oh, Harry will score for sure”. When it comes to Mo everyone is like “he needs to be on the bench”. I am sorry Harry!’

He is also clearly aware of recent criticism from club legend Jamie Carragher and he expects to hear more.

‘After what I have done for the club it really hurts. You can imagine, really,’ he continued. ‘After going from home to the club and you don’t know if you are starting. I know the club too well, I have been here many years. Tomorrow [Jamie] Carragher is going to go for me again and again and that’s fine.’
