Tim Westwood makes first crown court appearance charged with rape and sexual assault

Former BBC Radio 1 DJ and Pimp My Ride presenter Tim Westwood arrived at Southwark Crown Court this morning.

This is the disgraced star’s first crown court appearance after being granted conditional bail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court earlier this year.

Westwood, 68,faced the charges at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 10, and has now made his first crown court appearance.

Westwood looked gaunt and dressed for the cooler weather in a thick black jacket, black trousers, and black lace-up boots.

He arrived in a black cab and was quickly ushered into the court.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed Westwood is charged with sexual offences against seven women.

Charges include four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault.The alleged incidents spanned decades, taking place between 1983 and 2016.

The DJ has been charged with indecently assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Fulham, London, in 1983 and indecently assaulting a woman in her 20s in Vauxhall in 1986.

The defendant is also alleged to have raped a woman in a London hotel in 1996.

Westwood is further accused of two indecent assaults and one count of rape from the early 2000s at a London address, and two counts of rape at a London address in the 2010s.

He is also alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman at a nightclub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, in 2010.

Westwood is the son of the former Anglican bishop of Peterborough, Bill Westwood, who died in the 1990s.

He stepped down from his show on Capital Xtra in April 2022 and left Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra in 2013 after nearly 20 years at the BBC.

He also presented the MTV UK car makeover show Pimp My Ride UK, which ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2007.

Police have stated that the investigation is open, and they encourage anyone impacted to speak up.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, from the Metropolitan Police Service, said: ‘It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature. The women who have done so have put their trust in us and we continue to provide them with all available support.

‘Our investigation remains open and we’d encourage anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with us. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at CIT@met.police.uk. Any reports will be dealt with in the strictest confidence by specialist officers.’
