Phillies Trade Idea Sends Alec Bohm to Red Sox for All-Star Outfielder

The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies are firm competitors in Major League Baseball. Boston has already begun improving its roster heading into the next calendar year by making two meaningful trades. The Phillies have several key decisions to make this offseason with Kyle Schwarber and Ranger Suarez.

As MLB’s Winter Meetings are taking place this week, it’s expected that some of the biggest league shakeup moves are going to take place. A recent trade proposal has the Red Sox and Phillies linking up for a player-swap deal that would land a prominent outfielder in Philadelphia.

Phillies Land Jarren Duran in Mock Trade Idea by ESPN

The rumor mill is swirling at this time of year, and especially on the trade market. Last July, both the Phillies and Red Sox were active in terms of making trades.

In a recent article by ESPN’ Eric Karabell that predicts a wild trade idea ahead of the Winter Meetings, the Boston Red Sox send outfielder Jarren Duran to the Phillies in exchange for Alec Bohm.

A player-swap deal that benefits both sides. If the Red Sox are unable to retain Alex Bregman, Bohm would be the everyday third baseman, and the Phillies get a much-needed outfielder. Bohm is a capable hitter and defender.

Philadelphia Phillies

GettyPhillies predicted to trade Alec Bohm to AL contender.

After a stellar 2024 season, where Jarren Duran hit 48 doubles, 14 triples,  21 home runs, and was named an All-Star for the first time, his 2025 campaign wasn’t as good, but still highly productive. In 157 games in 2025, Duran hit .256 with 41 doubles, 13 triples, and an OPS+ of 114.

The Red Sox have a surplus in the outfield at the moment, with Roman Anthony and Ceddanne Rafaela being locked up long-term. There is really just one available spot, and it’s between Duran, Wilyer Abreu, and Masataka Yoshida. The expectation is that one of them is likely to move this offseason.

Jarren Duran is a Controllable Player

The needle mover in this proposed trade is the fact that Jarren Duran comes with a few years of team control, due to being in his arbitration years. Philadelphia would have a great idea of what they are working with before he becomes a free agent in 2029, and for a 13.9 bWAR player, being first-year arb-eligible makes for an attractive trade candidate.

But what makes this deal happen is Boston acquiring an All-Star-level player in Alec Bohm. Bohm isn’t an extra-base hit machine like Duran, but he has hit above .270 in each of the past four full seasons.

In 2025, Bohm hit .287 with 18 doubles and 11 home runs in 120 games.

The Winter Meetings are sure to bring some buzz around all potential trade candidates, but keep an eye out for the Phillies to be a possible landing spot for Jarren Duran if Boston decides it wants to ship him.
