The Toronto Blue Jays have been making waves since the conclusion of the World Series. Losing Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers hasn’t slowed down the MLB’s AL Champion. Bringing back Shane Bieber, adding Cody Ponce, and Dylan Cease have strengthened the rotation, giving them trade chips to upgrade other positions. With the Winter Meetings under full swing, rumors are swirling regarding the likes of Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Robert Suarez, Pete Fairbanks, and many others.
The fact remains that if Bichette moves on to a new organization, the Blue Jays will need to make changes to cover for the loss of the young slugger. During these Winter Meetings in Orlando, new replacement options have surfaced for the Blue Jays to sign if they are unable to bring back Bichette.
Toronto Blue Jays Have Options Outside of Kyle Tucker To Replace Bo Bichette
Things are moving quickly at the Winter Meetings. Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, which was the first domino to fall.
After that, the top closer in Edwin Diaz joined the Dodgers on a three-year pact worth $69 million. This move will cause a big ripple effect for the Blue Jays.
With two organizations making moves, it feels high time for the Blue Jays to make moves of their own. Mitch Bannon of The Athletic has a new report detailing some of the options available to Toronto if it can’t orchestrate a return for Bichette.
“(Alex) Bregman, two league sources said, could be a potential back-up plan for Toronto if the Jays fail to sign Tucker or Bichette,” Bannon wrote on December 9, 2025. “Cody Bellinger, who is similar to Kyle Tucker in many ways, could also be a Blue Jays fit in Toronto. While the Jays have also been connected to trade candidate Ketel Marte, the Arizona Diamondbacks infielder appears unlikely to be coming to Toronto.”
Bannon lists Alex Bregman, Ketel Marte, and Bellinger as potential replacements for the Blue Jays. Tucker is also listed as a replacement, but it’s been known that Toronto is a frontrunner to land the highly coveted free agent.
Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman, or Ketel Marte?
While things have been quiet regarding linking Bellinger to the Blue Jays, Toronto has previously shown interest in the player. According to a 2024 report, Toronto had interest in the versatile slugger.
“The Toronto Blue Jays had interest in trading for outfielder Cody Bellinger before his trade to the New York Yankees Tuesday evening, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post,” TSN wrote in December 2024. “Heyman adds the Jays’ interest helped the Cubs get the deal they wanted.”
Bellinger connected for 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in 2025. He also recorded 160 hits with a .272 batting average with the New York Yankees.
Bellinger would more than make up for any offense lost with a Bichette departure. And that assumes the Blue Jays’ interest is genuine and not another leverage move.
The Latest on Bo Bichette and the Boston Red Sox
Tucker is still the frontrunner to replace Bichette, if the Blue Jays can’t sign both. Despite visiting some of the organization’s facilities last week, Tucker has interest from other teams.
The Athletic’s Katie Woo reported that the Dodgers have interest in Tucker.
“The Dodgers remain in the mix for Kyle Tucker,” Woo wrote in a post on X on December 9th. “Though the club is unlikely to offer a six or seven-year deal. A three-to-four-year deal (similar to what Alex Bregman took last year) would be in play.”
While it would sting to lose Tucker to the Dodgers, the door isn’t completely closed on a Bichette reunion.
Reports surfaced that Bichette was “impressed” with the Boston Red Sox after a Zoom meeting. However, another report from late on Tuesday revealed that unless Bichette’s market changes, the Red Sox aren’t in on him.
Things are happening, and another day of the Winter Meetings is sure to bring more movement and rumors.
