Hugh Jackman is giving an unfiltered take on one of the most hilarious (and embarrassing) mishaps of his life. The actor was spotted laughing about one of the most uncomfortable moments of his early career.
During an appearance on SiriusXMâs âThe Howard Stern Show,â the 57-year-old actor reacted with amusement when Stern asked, âDidn’t you piss your pants⦠on stage?â
The Hydration Advice That Backfired During Jackmanâs Early Stage Role
âMorning, everybody!â Jackman joked, confirming it happened while he was playing Gaston in a stage production of âBeauty and the Beast.â
A naturopath had warned him he was dehydrated, so he prepared for an early show by drinking âtwo gallonsâ of water.
âYou can see whatâs happening,â Jackman said. During his first number, while lifting the actress playing Belle, âa little bit of piss came out. I’m wearing red tights. I thought, âuh-oh.ââ
The Moment Things Got Worse Onstage
GettyJackman said the real problem came during the songâs big finish. âI had a choice: You sing that F. I either sing it and piss my pants or I don’t sing it and humiliate myself. So, I sang it. And [the urination] was just going.â
He turned away from the audience to avoid being seen. âI’m laughing to myself, thinking my boot is filled with piss, both boots filled with piss. And somehow I’m on stage, 1500 people, âWell, I’m getting away with this.ââ
But backstage, his dresser immediately spotted it. âShe’s looking at my crotch. And I look down as I walk off and it’s completely wet. So in that three minutes after the song, it had seeped through.â
As Jackman summed it up, âNothing can embarrass you after that.â
Actor Opens Up About Therapy, Awards, and New Film Work
GettyBeyond the mishap, Jackmanâs conversation with Stern touched on therapy, award season, and his admiration for costar Kate Hudson.
The pair star in âSong Sung Blue,â Craig Brewerâs new biopic about Milwaukee performers Mike and Claire Sardina, who formed the Neil Diamond tribute act Lightning and Thunder in the 1980s.
The movie hits theaters on December 25.
âIâm really proud of it,â Jackman said of the film. âAnd when I look at the screen, and I see my performance, Iâm like, âThatâs one of the better things Iâve done.ââ
GettyJackman has a busy slate ahead. He stars in âThree Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie,â arriving in theaters May 8, 2026, and in âThe Death of Robin Hood,â set for release June 4, 2026.
Even with a packed schedule, the actor said moments like his early onstage slip remind him how much he has learned.
And judging from his laughter, heâs more than happy to look back on the story now.
