Ja’Marr Chase Doesn’t Hold Back About Joe Burrow

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sure did a great job of firing up the rumor mill yesterday during a meeting with the press, much to the confusion of Ja’marr Chase.

He peeled back the curtain a bit. Per Sports Illustrated, Burrow stated: “if I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it. I’ve been through a lot; if it’s not fun, then what am I doing it for?”

Not really the words you want to hear if you’re a Bengals fan. Certainly not the words you want to hear if you’re Benagls’ a;;-world wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

Paul Brennan of Yahoo! Sports provided what Ja’marr Chase had to say when he asked about his quarterback’s candidness on December 10th:

Chase, speaking during a Dec. 11 news conference at Paycor Stadium, indicated that he disagreed with the sample of the conversation he’s seen and heard, which included some questioning whether Burrow loves football or not.

“I see him the same every day. To me, he loves football,” Chase said. “You know what I’m saying? But that’s a him question. I can’t answer that for him. … I see the same person every day. Comes to work. He loves work. You know what I’m saying? He don’t look like he’s bummed to be here.

“He smiles every day. The narrative that you all are trying to paint on him right now, I don’t see it. You know what I’m saying? At the end of the day, he’s the same person every day he comes to work. He loves work. He loves the guys in the locker room, so he’s pretty positive.”

Maybe it’s possible that some players just can’t be media-trained robots all the time. The Bengals’ season has been very frustrating, and it’s hard to say anyone is more frustrated than Burrow.

When healthy, it’s obvious that Burrow is one of the current greats of the league. For him to face so many injuries and see his team suffer for it, has to do a number on his mental fortitude.

These guys are all human, and it’s fair to say that Joe Burrow probably doesn’t find a ton of fun in losing.

On a Thursday edition of ESPN’s “Unsportsmanlike“. analyst and former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky used to the platform to introduce several teams that could trade for Burrow. He named the Jets, Raiders, and Steelers.

The Jets and Raiders seem like much more likely destinations than the division-rival Steelers, but never say never.

Another major team in the mix is the Minnesota Vikings, with BetMGM’s official X account fanning the flames regarding the potential trade for Joe Burrow. The post also listed the Jets and Raiders, as well as Cardinals and Falcons as landing spots for the former LSU Tiger.

It, of course, is not likely that Burrow gets traded. But his words sure do offer quite some insight into where he currently stands mentally in Cincinnati.
